My f*******: messenger pinged, alerting me to a new message from my freelance business profile. I had been successfully resisting my friends’ and colleagues’ good-natured ribbing on my lack of a personal profile. When I decided to branch out into web design, I gave in and set up a profile page. It was something I did for fun during semester breaks. Nothing too personal was posted on my page. I merely provided a list of my services and links to my past work. I didn’t receive many inquires this way, but it did give my business the appearance of being with the times. Something essential for a web-based business.
