Jessica, Present Day (Five Years Later)
I had everything planned perfectly, right down to the matching napkins and tablecloths. My brother’s surprise fiftieth birthday party is going to go over without a hitch.
I had Drew take him out on a wild goose chase for a supplement I fabricated. Being pregnant has its advantages. So, while they are driving all over town looking for something that doesn’t exist, I had all our friends park a few streets over and hide in the backyard.
“Sweetie, please stop moving the chairs around. You’re not supposed to do any heavy lifting,” my husband, Brody, scolds me.
“The chairs aren’t that heavy. Give me a break!” He’s been on my case often lately about pushing myself. I’m not one to sit around and let things happen. I need to be in control.
