Chapter 6 Wes, September 1987 Drew’s fingers were in my hair, massaging my scalp. I was on the verge of falling asleep from the soothing, repetitive motion. We were sprawled out on my bed after a disappointing first week of high school. After a whole year of being in all the same classes, ninth grade meant being separated from Drew. He was registered for all the advanced college prep classes, while I was stuck in mostly remedials. No longer would I be able to rely on him as a partner for any class assignments to get a good grade.
