Alex, Luke, and Reggie materialized in front of their friend Willie. He and Alex had accidentally crossed paths a while back, forging a deep bond. As Reggie fully explained what was going on, Willie’s curiosity was sparked.
“So let me get this straight,” Willie asked Reggie, trying to understand. “You actually feel a surge of electricity when you’re near her?
Casually, Reggie shrugged his shoulders as if it was no big deal. “It’s worse when I kiss her…”
A look of surprise washed over Willie’s face, his eyes widening and his mouth agape. “Wait a minute, you actually kissed a normie? How is that even possible? And she can see you as well?”
“Cait’s ability to see him seems to be triggered only when she’s overwhelmed with emotions,” Luke stated.
Willie’s jaw dropped in astonishment upon hearing this news, and he exhaled a sigh of disbelief. “I have to see this myself, guys. If this is what I think it is… I have to see it myself.”
The three friends all exchanged knowing glances and nodded in unison, deciding to show Willie the sight firsthand. Reggie’s stomach churned with nerves at the mere thought of kissing Cait again. He enjoyed the exhilarating feeling of being alive whenever he was with her, even if it sometimes came with a jolt of electricity. Yet, his determination pushed him to uncover the truth behind this enigma and assess its importance.
In Reggie’s mind, Cait’s smile was always there whenever they connected. As a result, his lips curved upward in a joyful grin. She had a way of making him feel a whirlwind of emotions that defied description. In the music studio, Cait sat on the leather couch, gently clutching the rose Reggie had left for her. Resting on the coffee table in front of her were her notebook and pencil. Reggie looked at her with a tender gaze, and his friends playfully nudged him.
“Go kiss her,” Alex said, gesturing for him to move towards her. “Willie has to see what’s going on.”
Nervously, Reggie muttered, “Oh, right,” as he made his way towards Cait. By not lifting her eyes, she could no longer see him. His sigh hung in the air, but his fingers lingered on her cheek, tracing gentle patterns.
As the icy touch reached her, Cait couldn’t help but lean into it, her face lighting up with a smile. “Reggie, I didn’t know you were back. I guess me being able to see you has worn off.” A sad expression appeared on her face, unaware of the impending events.
Reggie leaned in close, his icy breath sending shivers down her spine as it tickled her cheek. Their lips met in a tender embrace, and he held the kiss for a moment, cherishing the sensation before gently releasing. Cait’s tender gaze caused a flurry of butterflies to dance in his stomach. Reggie’s gaze lingered on her face, his smile reflecting the affection he felt for her.
“Did you feel the surge?” Willie asked, making Reggie remember his friends were watching.
“Huh?” Reggie responded, reluctantly tearing his gaze away from Cait and turning his attention to him. “Oh, I wasn’t paying attention…”
Cait looked at him with a puzzled expression, trying to make sense of what he was saying. Reggie explained to her that he had brought along a friend of the boys’ who might have information about the electricity situation.
“Well, kiss her again,” Willie said, standing nearby and watching Cait and Reggie intently. “But think about how she makes you feel. What do you see when you look at her?”
Cait’s eyes darted around the room, her confusion clear on her face. The music studio stood before her, its emptiness echoing in the silence. When Reggie looked at her, a soft smile spread across his face.
“I feel alive when I’m with her,” Reggie said, his words carrying a sense of passion. “When I look at her, I see bravery, beauty, sadness and loss.”
Willie’s smile widened as he motioned towards Cait, silently signaling his approval. “Now you can kiss her.”
Reggie did just that. He leaned in and pressed his lips against hers, feeling that surge course through his body. Cait reached her hand up to caress his cheek, relishing the softness of his skin against her touch as she kissed him back. Out of nowhere, Reggie abruptly pulled away, his body jolting with sharp electric pains. He disappeared, causing Cait to anxiously glance around in search of his presence.
“Reggie? What’s happening?” she asked, her voice laced with panic. Tears cascaded down her face, mirroring her deep fear.
Willie and Luke extended their arms to help Reggie stand up, while Alex swiftly grabbed the pencil and jotted down that Reggie was alright. With a sigh of relief, Cait settled herself into the comfortable seat. Reggie’s hand instinctively flew to his chest, attempting to ease the lingering ache that continued to torment him. He looked up at Willie with a helpless expression, desperately scanning his face for any signs of answers. Excitement sparkled in Willie’s eyes as he wore a beaming smile.
“This is exactly what I think it is,” Willie said eagerly, his voice filled with anticipation as he turned his gaze from Cait to Reggie.
“You all need to go see this person.” With a swift motion, he snatched the pencil off the table and hastily scribbled an address down on the notebook. “This person will help you. I don’t want to say what I think it is in case I’m wrong. But hopefully this ghost will be of some help.”
Reggie finally stood up, and he positioned himself in front of Cait, gently grasping her hand to reassure her of his presence. Her sad smile lingered on her face as she scanned her surroundings, completely unaware of the unfolding situation. Luke, Alex, and Willie exchanged glanced as they watched Reggie and Cait. Reggie rested his forehead on hers and closed his eyes.
“We’re going to figure this out,” Reggie whispered. “I promise you, we will figure this out together.” He left a kiss on her lips and when he opened her eyes, she was staring at him. Cait embraced him and their lips connected once more. As Reggie felt his heart race, he sensed the familiar jolt of electricity, but he deliberately brushed it aside.
Alex cleared his throat, causing Reggie to abruptly break away from his kiss with Cait. Much to everyone’s surprise, Cait’s gaze locked onto each boy, her eyes widening in disbelief. With a quick glance at her and everyone in the room, Alex motioned his thumb towards her.
“Can she see us? I feel like she’s looking directly at me,” Alex said, waving at Cait.
Her eyes widened in surprise, but quickly transformed into a joyful smile as she instinctively covered her mouth with her hand. “How can I see all of you now?”
“I’m not entirely certain,” Luke admitted, his brows furrowed in confusion. “However, Willie provided an address. Perhaps this individual can shed some light on the questions we have about this spark.” Luke swiftly picked up the paper from the coffee table and extended it to Cait. “I have a good feeling about this ghost.”
Cait took the paper and studied it intently, her brows furrowing in concentration. “I don’t think this is a safe location…”
Reggie reached out and gently squeezed her hand, providing a comforting touch. “We’ll be right there with you, even if you won’t be able to see us.”
Cait’s agreement came with a hesitant nod and a deep sigh that escaped her lips. Since Willie had earned the trust of the boys, it seemed logical that she should trust him as well. Being a ghost himself, he knew there were beings in the ghost realm who held answers to all supernatural phenomena. That’s what she hoped, at least, as she held onto a glimmer of optimism. It pained Cait to witness Reggie’s suffering. The anguish was evident on his face. Their only solace in that moment was the flickering flame of hope.
