As far as Beau could tell, from the reactions he got from Karl and the other men on the security staff, none of them were surprised to see him when he arrived. Karl even took him aside to tell him he’d heard that Beau had done a great job solving a problem Whalen had. Beau shrugged. “It’s what I’m good at, for what it’s worth.” “A lot, as far as I’m concerned,” Karl replied. “I’ve got the feeling he’s going to move you up to something more in your line of expertise, after today.” “That would be fine with me.” Beau smiled. “Not that I don’t like dealing with drunks and pissed-off spouses, but…” Karl laughed, clapping a hand on Beau’s shoulder. “I hear you.” From then on, the night proceeded as always, until just before midnight when Beau got a phone call. Then, it went to pieces fast.
