In Love with the Enemy

Chapter 2

Leo

It’s been two weeks since I met that girl in the library. She has constantly been on my mind I haven’t been able to get her beautiful face off my mind. A part of me regrets not following her that night, at least I could have gotten her name that way I would have figured out if she was a freshmen or sophomore.

I have visited the library every evening the past weeks to try and find her, but she seems to have not visited the library which is impossible. I thought of asking the librarians for a list of people who visited the library the same day I did but that is a long shot and even then, I doubt they would give me the information.

In the past weeks, I have been to several parties. Its hard to avoid these parties when you are Boston University soccer team captain. Chase enjoys these parties more than I do. I wish he was selected captain and not me.

Ever since Bianca and I broke up, I have not flirted or hooked up with any chic which the guys all find weird. One of the reasons Bianca broke up with me is because I gave my attention to almost every girl that talked to me. I won’t lie I hooked up with a few behind her back and I learnt my lesson when she dumped me.

I miss Bianca, she was an amazing girlfriend, and I was an ass to her which I regret. I tried asking her for another chance so that I do things right this time, but she doesn’t want to give me another chance.

I am currently in the library returning a book I borrowed a few days ago and then suddenly I bump into someone carrying several thick books which fall to the floor.

“Arrrggg c’mon.” I hear a familiar female voice.

I know that voice very well. I look at the person I just bumped into, it’s the girl.

Frustrated she bends down to pick the books. I should help her considering this is partially my fault.

“Let me help you if you don’t mind.” I bend down and start picking the books. She stands up with two of the books in her hands while I get the rest off the floor.

As I straighten up, I can’t help but notice her bare legs. She is wearing a dress that is falling above her knees. She has a beautiful body, seeing her in natural lighting is amazing. Her perfume smells really good too. Is there anything that is not perfect about her?

“These books are too heavy for a lady to carry around, where do you want me to put them for you?” I ask her with a smile.

She rolls her eyes skywards. She must have recognized me then.

“Over here.” She says and then walks past me. I follow her and stop when she stops by a bookshelf.

She gently gets the books from me, getting two at a time and puts them all on a shelf.

“Thank you.” She says.

“No need to thank me I was just returning a favor.” I smile at her, and she looks at me clueless.

“Two weeks ago, we got locked in the library and you showed me a way out.” I remind her.

“I remember you and point of correction you were locked in not me because I already had a way out.” She immediately turns around and starts walking away.

A chuckle escapes me, sassy I see.

“I am Leo.” I say to her as I follow her out of the library.

She stops unexpectedly and I almost bump into her.

“I already know who you are. If you don’t mind I have somewhere to be, excuse me.” She rudely says and then proceeds on her way.

This girl is not like anyone I have met at this school. She is doing everything she can to get rid of me and I am up for the challenge. I need to at least get her name today. I won’t let her go that easily. I run after her until I catch up.

“Hey so you know my name, but I still don’t know yours.”

“If I tell you, will you then leave me alone?” she asks maintaining her pace.

“If that’s what you want but then I was wondering if you would like to hang out some time?” I scratch the back of my head.

I always do this whenever I am nervous. This girl is making me nervous, I never put in this much work with any girl not even Bianca gave me a hard time like this girl is.

“NO!” her response is loud and clear.

“Wait what do you mean by no?” I am confused.

She stops walking and then turs around to face me.

“No, I don’t have time to hang out with you.”

“How have you already decided that?”

“Look Leo,” she starts speaking with a straight face showing no emotion. “I don’t have time to chill or whatever it is you want to do. If you are trying to return the favor of me helping you out of the library just forget about it.” She turns around and starts walking again.

I stand there watching as she gets further and further away from me.

What the f**k is wrong with this girl?

“So that’s the girl.” I hear Chase say.

I turn around and find him and Mateo standing on the sidewalk. They weren’t there a few seconds ago when I was following that girl whose name, I still don’t know!

A wide grin spreads across Chase’s face. “Maria is feisty, be strong.”

Maria? Is that her name?

“No wonder captain hasn’t been hooking up with any girls lately,” Mateo comments.

I am not surprised the guys have noticed I haven’t hooked up with any girl since Bianca and I broke up.

“Is he trying to pull his act together for Mariaaa.” Mateo jokingly says and then he and Chase do a fist bump.

“I don’t know what’s gotten into you two but it’s nothing like it seems.” I turn around and look in the direction she was going. She is nowhere to be seen.

“You know what?” Chase put his arm around my shoulders, which I immediately shrug it off. “Let’s go to Angie’s chill to get your mind off this, there’ll be plenty of babes there. Marie is too much work.” Chase suggested.

“Not in the mood to party.” I say and then proceed walking.

“Dude c’mon why not?” Mateo joins the nagging. “How am I supposed to go to Angie’s without you, she’s going to tire me out with questions about your absence.” He goes on complaining as the three of us head towards our hostels.

“My cousin won’t kill you. Just tell her that I am unwell.” I say.

“I already used that excuse by the way.” says Chase.

“You see.” Mateo insists.

I take a long sigh before I speak, “Fine, I will think about it.”

“Great, Chase will make sure Maria is there. Right?” he pokes Chase in the ribs with his elbow.

“What’s the point if she doesn’t want to talk to me.” I say under my breath.

She clearly doesn’t like me, but that’s strange. Everyone likes me.

“Suzie if this is one of your crazy parties, I swear I will leave!” I tell her with a warning.

“It won’t be that bad, Kristen promised…..” Suzie and I enter the frat house that is hosting whatever this is called.

We are welcomed by the loud music that is bursting through the speakers. I am very sure this music can damage someone’s hearing. The house is full of students doing all sorts of things, couples in corners making out, gamers playing FIFA on the big flat screen TV, groupies smoking weed others shisha and some are already drunk.

I give Suzie a look that would make her want to disappear. She forced me to come to such an event, I don’t do such crowds. She grabs my wrist and then leads me through the crowd to the back of the back of the house where there is a small group of people scattered around the pool chatting and taking drinks.

“Better?” Suzie asks me with a smile.

“Honestly I would rather be in bed watching Netflix or something.”

“No Ria, you promised we would hang out today.”

Why on earth did I even make such a promise? The past month, Suzie has been insisting we do something fun, and her idea of fun always involves such a crowd which I despise. Last week I promised we would do whatever she wants this weekend and that’s how I have found myself here.

“Let me go get us something to drink, I will be right back. You find us a friendly group.” She says and then leaves me out here in the back yard.

I look around the groups that are currently scattered in the back yard. I spot a few familiar faces. They are friends from freshmen’s year. Most of them are currently studying law.

“Hi guys,” I announce my presence as I approach them.

They turn around and one of them smiles brightly at me.

“Mariaaa.” Liz says cheerfully.

She gets up and walks towards me. She grabs my wrist and then leads me back to the group that is only three steps from where I am currently standing.

“Where have you been hiding?” Joe asks me.

Liz and I sit down on the lawn joining the group. Everyone seems to have already had enough drinks for the night.

“I haven’t been hiding, just been really occupied with school.” I respond.

“Girl you have always been occupied with school you need to give yourself time to mingle with people. Find a boyfriend, get stupid drunk, live your life girl.” Mark says in a lousy drunk voice.

Lucky me Suzie returns with our drinks.

“Hey guys.” She greets everyone and then joins the group.

Usually, I am picky with what I drink, but after what Mark just said, I need to loosen up a little and just enjoy life. I get my cup from Suzie and down the beverage in one go. It tastes sweet and strong so I am assuming it must be punch.

“Whoa!” Joe cheers, “Lets drink up mates.” He says and then pulls out a bottle of tequila from his bag next to him.

We are all having such a good time catching up and playing a lot of drinking games. I planned on retiring to bed early tonight but that is not happening. I just want to have a good time tonight. I have no upcoming tests all my assignments are done too.

“Let’s play Truth or Dare.” Chloe suggests.

We all look at each other and no one opposes.

“Let me grab some more drinks before we start.” Mark says as he gets off the lawn. He stumbles a little almost falling on Liz.

“Yohhh let me give you a push.” Liz offers. She gets up and disappears into the house with Mark.

I have not played truth or dare in a very long time. The last time was when I was in boarding school. One of my friends dared me to scream for help in the hallway which was such a bad idea because we all got caught and punished.

“This is all we could find.” Liz says while holding up two sealed bottles of tequila.

Oh snap, people shall crawl tonight, and people includes me.

“The rules shall be if you choose truth and fail to say the truth then you will get dared, and if you fail or deny a dare. You must down 5 shoots of tequila.” Joe tells everyone.

None of us oppose and the game begins. Suzie spins the empty bottle of tequila in the circle we have formed.

“Truth or Dare Ria” says a tipsy Liz.

The game has gone round twice already without me getting a turn which I didn’t complain about. Now here we are, I have eight sets of eyeballs staring at me anxiously waiting for me to make a choice.

“Dare.” I say with a little smile my lips.

“Oh, someone’s in a fun mood today.” Brandon who is sitting next to me says.

Kristen who is seated across from me raises her hand, “I think I should take this opportunity to dare Ria.”

“I hope this isn’t revenge of some sort” I eye Kristen and then laugh.

I dared her to go and kiss a random guy inside the house and she gladly took my dare. I know for a fact she kissed that guy she mentioned she is dating.

“Nope,” Kristen responds popping the P. “Ria I dare you,” she says while looking straight into my eyes. “To go into the dark pool house and wait for ten minutes.”

Everyone turns to look at me anticipating whether I will go or not. I stand up and straighten the short black dress I am wearing.

“Challenge accepted!” I smile and the walk to the pool house that is in the corner of the yard.

“FYI am not afraid of the dark babe.” I shout out to Kristen over her shoulder.

I enter the pool house and close the door behind me. This should be the easiest dare ever. I bet she will let me out in ten minutes. I wonder why Kristen has dared me to be in here for ten minutes. I mean………

oh snap, my eyes open wide when I realize this is Kristen we are talking about. How could I have missed this, it’s a set up.

The door opens, and someone walks in. A tall guy walks in. It’s dark in here so I can’t see his face, but he surely smells great. He takes a step closer towards me and I step back.

Is this the dare? Kristen is definitely getting back at me, but its not like its something she didn’t want to do. I know she kissed the new guy she claims to be dating.

I feel a strong hand on my lower back. Whoever this guy is, he gently pulls me closer and then lowers his face until his lips are on mine.

Fuck you, Kristen!
