Chapter 19Carter woke up coughing. There was smoke and dust around him, and the smell of hot metal. He winced at the constant ringing in his ear and his bruised body.
He gathered his bearings and found himself crunched on the floor in an old truck. He crawled up and sat in the passenger seat.
To his left, an unconscious Flora slumped forward in the driver seat. Her bare right arm showed only flesh, no blue lines.
The truck was stopped inside a small warehouse. Wrapped around the front of the old truck was a large, mangled door. It was like a garage door but much taller. Carter turned to look behind the truck. He saw a large opening with destroyed bits of metal around the frame, which led outside to the dark night and a silent street. That must have been where the large door came from, w
