Siya was lighting the diyas (small earthen lamps) in Sahib's house. It was Diwali. The whole village was illuminated with lights, lamps and crackers. Varieties of sweets were getting distributed among the families and neighbours. They all wore new clothes, and while the rich cooked special chappan bhog (56 food items), the poor relished their feast with their kheer (a sweet dish made from milk, rice and sugar) and some mixed vegetables. Sahib's house had no light and on the occasion of Diwali, who let their house drown in the darkness? Sahib, perhaps.
