Chapter 15

1081 Words
Riley I thought it was all a bad dream, getting scold by Carl, it had been the first, but when I woke up the next day, it all came back to me. Coming home with Neil, wearing Carl’s shirt even when Neil had asked me to take it off, it was all just to get Carl’s attention, to get a reaction from him, to pass the message that I was in love with him. But it ended badly last night, Carl had raised his voice at me, he had clearly told me that none of my tactics were going to work on him, and I was only fooling myself with the thought that he would be moved by it. I wiped the tears that rolled down my cheek and rolled out of bed. Dressing up for school, I left my room and headed downstairs, the smell of coffee drifting through the hallway, but there was no sound, no clatter of dishes being washed downstairs, and no Carl. I glanced around, and walked into the kitchen only to find a plate on the counter. A toast, scrambled eggs, a slice of orange arranged neatly, and beside it was a mug of warm coffee with a note beside it. I picked it up and read. Eat something. I clenched my jaw and rushed out to the porch to discover Carl’s car was gone. I scoffed. “Seriously?” I ran my hand through my hair, without going back in for breakfast, I left the house for school. “Hey, Riley?” Eve called out when I walked into class. “Why the long face again today?” She leaned forward with raised brows. I slid down my desk, placing my bag down. “I’m just infuriated about something.” I let out a sigh. “Is it about Neil?” Eve asked and I glanced at her, her eyes tell that she knew something. “What?” “Neil said he has been hanging out with you a lot these days, are you both going out now?” She asked and for a moment I contemplated if I should tell her no or yes. My eyes flickered to Neil who winked at me from his desk with a smile over his face. I groaned softly and returned my eyes to Eve. “He’s right, I even had him on my bed the previous day.” “What?” Eve gasped with wide eyes. “You had s*x with Neil?” She whispered. My brows furrowed. “No.” I said and she blinked. “Then why was he on your bed?” She raised her brows. “We almost did, but my father’s best friend came in and chased him off before we could go all the way.” I just wanted to get angry at Carl, I was telling Eve this thing but I was glad Carl showed up, I don’t think I would have gone all the way with Neil. “Oh….” Eve muttered. “Is he mad at you for it?” She asked. I slowly nodded. “Does he have the right to be?” I searched Eve’s eyes for answers. “Why do you think he’s mad at me?” Eve tapped her chin softly in thought. “I don’t think he’s mad at you, he must be concerned, you know your parents left you under his car, and he walked in to see you in that position with Neil, he has the right to get angry, your parents would be too…” Her explanation didn’t help my curiosity. “I am still a grown up, and can…” “You will be an adult in five days Riley, for now, they all see you as a minor, so you won’t blame him.” She turned when the teacher walked in. “What difference does it make?” I muttered under my breath and turned to focus on the class, although my mind kept drifting back to Carl. Was it only because he was concerned? Wasn’t it because he was jealous? If he was, then he would have told me. I bit down my lips. I’m sure he wanted to kiss me the other day. I’m certain about it. “Riley, I will drive you home!” Neil called out when I walked out of the school premises after the last bell went off. I turned to him, adjusting my bag pack. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Neil.” “Did you get into a problem because of me?” He asked and I shook my head. “I want to apologize to him, I’m sure he was shocked that’s why he acted that way…” “Why would you apologize?” I snapped, halting and turning to the stunned Neil. “And why is everyone defending his action?” I frowned. Even Neil who was asked to ‘get out’ last night was still defending Carl, I will be an adult in five days and I will show Carl that I can date whoever I want and sleep with whoever I want, even if it’s in his apartment. “I’m sorry.” Neil apologized and I blinked, he looked pale. I let out a soft sigh. “It’s me who should be sorry.” I said softly, I shouldn’t have snapped at him, Carl’s action was making me grumpy. “Today is just not a good day, I will take the bus.” I told him and walked away, luckily, he didn’t follow me. When I got home, there was no Carl, and on he dining table, was another note and warm plate of meal. I picked up the note and read. “Dinner, I will be home late.” I squeezed the note and tossed it, glaring at the plate of food. I haven’t eaten anything since the morning, I had no appetite and now my stomach was growling, I was hungry and wanted to walk past the food, but on second thought, I sat down to eat. He as ignoring me, he should feel guilty, this wasn’t concern, it’s his guilt, for yelling at me, so why do I have to let it bother me? I angrily ate the meal, tonight, I won’t wait for him, I will go into my room, do my homework, shower, and go to bed, I won’t stay out waiting for him like a wet puppy.
