LEOANDRO'S POV
My office overlooked the entire warehouse from the upper floor.
Dark wood. Leather furniture. Bulletproof windows.
A kingdom built on violence.
I carried Esmeralda inside and placed her carefully on the black leather couch.
She immediately grabbed my wrist before I could pull away.
“Don’t go.”
The words were soft.
Drugged.
But they still punched straight through my ribs.
“I have work to finish.”
She frowned like that offended her deeply.
“Work is stupid.”
I crouched in front of her.
Her hair had fallen across her face messily, and there was still powder beneath her nose.
I grabbed a cloth from the desk drawer and cleaned it away carefully.
“You scared the hell out of me just now.”
She watched me quietly.
“You got angry.”
“Yes.”
“Because you care.”
I exhaled slowly.
“You don’t get to inhale cocaine and become insightful.”
That made her smile lazily.
Then she leaned forward slightly.
“You’re always looking at me like you want to say something.”
I went completely still.
The room suddenly felt too small.
Too warm.
Too dangerous.
“Esmeralda…”
“What?”
I stared at her beautiful face and knew exactly how doomed I was.
Because there were things I wanted to say.
Things I could never afford to say.
Not to her.
Not when my world destroyed everything it touched.
I stood abruptly before I did something reckless.
“You need water.”
“And kisses.”
I nearly choked.
From outside the office door, I heard Adrian laughing again.
The bastard had definitely heard that.
I walked toward the desk instead.
Esmeralda fell sideways onto the couch dramatically.
“You’re avoiding me.”
“Yes.”
“Coward.”
I rubbed my temples.
"Do you want to know something"she mumbled
"What angel"
"I have lived you since I was sixteen, can you believe that" she laughed like she just told the world most expensive joke.
I almost chocked.
"Look at us" sighing I looked at her
Somewhere in the warehouse below, men were moving millions of dollars worth of drugs and weapons under my command.
And yet somehow the most dangerous thing in this entire building was the blonde woman currently high on cocaine in my office.
I grabbed a bottle of water and placed it beside her.
“Drink.”
“Only if you say please.”
I stared at her.
She smiled innocently.
“Please.”
“See? Growth.”
I should’ve left her at home.
Instead I found myself grabbing a pen and tearing a sheet from my notebook.
"Where are you going?" she asked sleepily.
“To work.”
Her face fell slightly.
Damn it.
I quickly wrote a short note before placing it beside the water bottle.
Don’t move. Don’t touch anything. Don’t threaten my soldiers again. Wait for me here. I'll come get you.
— Leo
She squinted at it.
Then laughed softly.
“You signed it.”
“I’m leaving now.”
“You’ll come back?”
The question was quiet.
Too quiet.
I looked at her for a long moment before answering.
“Always.”
Her expression softened instantly.
And that one look nearly destroyed every wall I had left.
So I turned before she could see it.
Before she could see how badly she affected me.
Before she could realize that the feared head of the Drakos Syndicate was already hopelessly ruined by her.
