‘’Haven’t I warned you times Without number to stop hanging out with those hoodlums you call your friends?’’ Kate roared again at her son, Chad.
Chad was fond of hanging out with bad company.it was the third time that month his friends had managed to get him into trouble .Like every other concerned mother , Kate had warned her son several times to mind the sort of company he kept but by just wouldn’t heed . Aged fifteen , Chad had already developed a very strong resistive mind of his own and felt he no longer needed the guidance of his parents. ‘Mom, it’s no fault of my friends.it’s just the police who have been to dumb to realize that I do nothing wrong ‘’. Chad stubbornly replied. ‘’It was these other kids that were trying to make trouble with my friends and me. All I did was try to separate them but before I knew it things go out of hands and they got injured, that’s all . I swear I did nothing wrong.’’
‘’Of course you did nothing wrong. But if you’ll only stick to my advice of moving with levelheaded people. Then we wouldn’t be arguing about who is and who is not at fault.’’
So once more Kate went over the issue of good mad bad and reminded Chad of why he shouldn’t move with those boys and always avoid bad company. ‘’Bad company corrupts goods manner’’ she said . ‘’Even if you are good, people will no longer see you as such. They will take you as one of them just because you move with them’’
Ordinarily, Chad was a good kid and exceptionally brilliant. That, coupled with his good features and well-to-do home, was what made everyone in his school want to hang around him. He was in SS1 but mostly hung out with the biggest boys in SS3. His mother’s greatest phobia was that the friends he hung out with might someday put him in trouble. They were much older and exposed than him so they always used him as scapegoat to get out of trouble. Chad was the first child and only son of his parents. He had a younger sister,Liz, who was just twelve years old . So with a boy , a girl, a caring mother and Father who, although was working hard and usually never around , he never failed to render attention to his family when needed, they had a very wonderful home.
Kate was able to give a good speech on morals that day. Chad began having second thoughts about his behavior and even rendered an apology promising to change . For the next two weeks everything was going on just fine as more of Chad was seen at home . Kate was really happy at her son’s new development and could not stop thanking God for it. But then, the holidays would soon be over.....
