The Death Doctor : part five

Chapter 5: The Plot Thickens Detective Louis Paul arrived at the hospital, determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. He requested a meeting with Dr. Stone, Elizabeth Harris, and Fred Meyer. As they gathered in the conference room, the tension was palpable. "Dr. Stone, I need to ask you some more questions," the detective began. "The autopsy report revealed that the patient had a rare genetic disorder. Did you know about this?" Dr. Stone shook his head. "No, I didn't. But I did follow the proper procedures for prescribing Ventaxin." Elizabeth snorted. "Proper procedures? You call killing a patient proper procedure?" Dr. Stone's eyes flashed with anger. "That's enough, Elizabeth. I've had enough of your insults." The detective intervened. "Let's keep the discussion civil, please. Dr. Stone, can you explain why you didn't catch the genetic disorder during the initial examination?" Dr. Stone sighed. "I relied on the patient's medical history, which didn't mention the disorder. I should have done more research, I admit." Fred Meyer spoke up. "But, detective, we all rely on patient histories. It's not uncommon for patients to withhold information or forget to mention something." The detective nodded. "I understand that, Dr. Meyer. But what about the nurse who administered the drug? Did she notice anything unusual?" Nicole Watson, who had been quietly observing the discussion, spoke up. "I administered the drug, detective. And I did notice something strange. The patient's vital signs began to fluctuate rapidly after the injection." Elizabeth's eyes widened. "You knew about this and didn't say anything?" Nicole defended herself. "I reported my concerns to Dr. Stone, but he assured me that the patient was stable." Dr. Stone's face was pale. "I...I made a mistake. I should have listened to Nicole's concerns." The detective's eyes narrowed. "It seems we have a serious case of negligence here. Dr. Stone, I need to take you in for further questioning." As the detective led Dr. Stone away, Elizabeth turned to Fred and Nicole. "I told you he was a menace. He's going to pay for his mistakes." Fred looked uncomfortable. "Let's not jump to conclusions, Liz. We don't know the whole story yet." Nicole nodded in agreement. "And what about the patient's family? They deserve to know the truth." Elizabeth's expression turned cold. "The truth? The truth is that Dr. Stone is a killer, and he needs to be stopped." The discussion continued, with the hospital staff debating Dr. Stone's guilt and the detective working to unravel the mystery. But as the investigation deepened, it became clear that nothing was as simple as it seemed.
