The Death Doctor : part six

408 Words
Chapter 6: The Investigation Intensifies As the detective continued his questioning, Dr. Stone's alibi began to unravel. It seemed that he had been alone in the hospital room when the patient flatlined. "Dr. Stone, can you explain why you didn't call for assistance when the patient's vital signs began to drop?" the detective asked, his tone firm but controlled. Dr. Stone shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "I...I didn't want to alarm anyone unnecessarily. I thought I could handle the situation myself." The detective raised an eyebrow. "Handle the situation yourself? You're a doctor, not a miracle worker. Why did you feel the need to take on this responsibility alone?" Dr. Stone's eyes dropped, and he mumbled something inaudible. The detective leaned in closer. "What was that, Dr. Stone? I didn't quite catch it." Dr. Stone looked up, his eyes flashing with defiance. "I said, I didn't want to be a bother. I knew the other doctors were busy, and I didn't want to add to their workload." The detective's expression turned skeptical. "A bother? Dr. Stone, this is a patient's life we're talking about. Not some minor inconvenience." Elizabeth, who had been observing the interrogation, couldn't help but interject. "Detective, I think we've heard enough. Dr. Stone's incompetence is clear. He's a danger to his patients, and he needs to be held accountable." The detective turned to her, his expression stern. "Dr. Harris, I appreciate your input, but let's not jump to conclusions. We need to follow the evidence, not personal opinions." Dr. Stone's face was pale, but he spoke up, his voice firm. "I understand what happened, detective. And I'm willing to accept the consequences. But please, don't let personal biases cloud your judgment." The detective's eyes narrowed. "I'll keep that in mind, Dr. Stone. But for now, I need to take you in for further questioning. We'll get to the bottom of this, I promise." As the detective led Dr. Stone away, the hospital staff began to murmur among themselves. "I can't believe he did this," Nicole said, shaking her head. "I told you he was a menace," Elizabeth said, her voice smug. Fred Meyer looked uncomfortable. "Let's not jump to conclusions, guys. We don't know the whole story yet." But as the investigation continued, it became clear that Dr. Stone's mistakes were only the tip of the iceberg. A larger conspiracy was at play, one that threatened to destroy the very fabric of the hospital.
