Chapter 8: The Confrontation
The detective's eyes never left Dr. Lee's face as he spoke. "I have evidence, Dr. Lee. Evidence that links you to the conspiracy. And I'm not going to let you get away with it."
Dr. Lee snorted. "Evidence? Ha! You have nothing. Nothing but circumstantial nonsense."
The detective smiled. "Oh, I think I have enough. Enough to take you down, Dr. Lee. Enough to make sure you never practice medicine again."
Dr. Lee's face turned red with rage. "You'll never take me down! I have too much power! Too much influence!"
The detective leaned in closer. "Power? Influence? You mean like the power to kill innocent patients? The influence to cover up your mistakes?"
Dr. Lee's eyes flashed with anger. "How dare you! I am a respected member of this hospital! A respected member of this community!"
The detective's voice was cold. "Respected? You call killing patients respected? You call covering up your mistakes respected?"
Dr. Lee's face was twisted with rage. "You'll pay for this! You'll pay for daring to question me!"
The detective stood tall, his eyes never leaving Dr. Lee's face. "I'm not afraid of you, Dr. Lee. I'm not afraid of your power or your influence. I'm only afraid of one thing: justice."
Dr. Lee sneered. "Justice? Ha! You'll never get justice. I'll make sure of it."
The detective smiled grimly. "We'll see about that, Dr. Lee. We'll see about that."
As the confrontation continued, the tension in the hallway grew thicker. The hospital staff watched in silence, their eyes fixed on the two men facing off against each other.
Elizabeth Harris stepped forward, her voice firm. "Dr. Lee, I think it's time you left. Before things get any worse."
Dr. Lee's eyes flashed with anger, but he knew he was beaten. He turned and stormed out of the hospital, leaving the detective and Elizabeth to watch him go.
The detective turned to Elizabeth. "Thank you, Dr. Harris. Thank you for standing up for what's right."
Elizabeth smiled. "It's the least I could do, detective. After all, justice is what we're all striving for."
The detective nodded. "Justice. Yes. That's exactly what we're going to get."
As they spoke, the hospital staff began to murmur among themselves. They knew that something big was happening, something that would change the hospital forever.
And they knew that the detective and Elizabeth were at the center of it all, fighting for justice and fighting for the truth.
