Aylin paced back and forth across her living room, her fingers tightly clutching her phone. Every few seconds, she glanced at the screen, her heart fluttering with anticipation.
Still nothing.
She sighed and turned once more, her steps quick and restless.
"Aylin," Adele said from the couch, watching her with amused exasperation, "if you keep pacing like that, you’re going to wear a hole through the floor"
Aylin stopped mid-step. "I can’t help it! They said they’d get back to me soon. What if 'soon' means they’ve already chosen someone else?"
Adele rolled her eyes dramatically. "Or it could mean they’re preparing your offer letter. Relax. You were incredible in that interview"
"I hope so," Aylin murmured, resuming her pacing. "I really need this job"
"And you’ll get it," Adele said rather confidently, crossing her legs. "Trust me. Carrington Enterprises would be very very lucky to have you"
Aylin offered a faint smile but said nothing. The silence stretched, heavy with anticipation.
Then—
Ping!
Her phone vibrated in her hand.
She froze.
"Adele…" she whispered, eyes wide.
"I got a message"
Adele straightened immediately. "Well? Open it!"
"I—I can’t," Aylin stammered, her voice trembling. "What if it’s a rejection?"
Adele leapt to her feet and snatched the phone. "Give it here before you pass out from suspense"
"Adele!" Aylin protested, reaching for it.
But Adele had already opened the message.
Her eyes widened.
Then she screamed.
"YOU GOT THE JOB!"
For a moment, Aylin stood there in stunned silence.
"What?"
Adele thrust the phone into her hands. "Read it!"
With shaky fingers, Aylin scanned the message.
Dear Miss Everett,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the position at Carrington Enterprises. We were impressed by your qualifications and look forward to welcoming you to our team…
Her breath caught.
"I… I got it," she whispered, her voice trembling with disbelief. "Adele, I got the job!"
A squeal escaped her lips as joy surged through her.
Without hesitation, she launched herself at Adele, wrapping her in a tight embrace.
"I got it! I got it! I got it!" she exclaimed, laughing breathlessly.
Adele laughed, hugging her just as tightly. "Of course you did! I told you they’d be crazy not to hire you!"
Tears of happiness shimmered in Aylin’s eyes as she pulled back, her face glowing with excitement.
"This is really happening," she said, her voice filled with wonder. "A fresh start… at Carrington Enterprises"
Adele grinned. "And this time, you’ll be somewhere that actually values you"
Aylin nodded, clutching her phone to her chest. "Thank you, Adele. I wouldn’t have had this opportunity without you"
"Oh, please," Adele replied with a playful wave. "Just remember me when you’re rich and successful"
Aylin laughed. "Deal"
They collapsed onto the couch, still giddy with excitement.
"So," Adele said with a mischievous smile, "when do you start?"
Aylin glanced at the message again, her heart soaring.
"Monday"
Adele clapped her hands. "Perfect! We’re celebrating tonight"
Aylin beamed, her eyes shining with hope.
"Yes," she said softly. "We are"
As she looked down at the offer letter once more, a sense of destiny stirred within her.
She didn’t know it yet, but this job would change her life.
It would lead her to challenges she never expected…
And to a man she was never meant to forget.
