Private Elevator

Aylin’s heart pounded in her chest. She clutched her scattered documents tightly, forcing herself to meet the gaze of the man she had just collided with. Up close, he was even more striking—tall, impeccably dressed, and radiating an effortless authority that made the air feel heavier. "I—I’m terribly sorry," she said again, bowing her head slightly. "I wasn’t watching where I was going" For a brief moment, he said nothing. Then, he spoke. "It’s alright" His voice was deep and calm, carrying a quiet power that sent a shiver down her spine. Before she could respond, another man hurried forward—well-dressed, alert, and visibly alarmed. "Sir, are you alright?" the assistant asked, casting Aylin a wary glance. Sir? Aylin’s pulse quickened. "I’m fine," the man replied smoothly, his amber eyes never leaving her. "There’s no need to make an issue of it" The assistant hesitated. "But—" "That will be all," he said, his tone gentle yet final. The assistant fell silent immediately, though the astonishment in his eyes was unmistakable. Aylin swallowed, her nerves tightening. Whoever this man was, he clearly held significant authority. "Thank you for your understanding," she said politely. "It’s my first day, and I didn’t mean to cause any trouble" A flicker of interest crossed his face. "Your first day?" he asked. "Yes," she replied. "I’ve just joined the marketing department" "I see" His gaze lingered on her for a moment longer before he gestured toward the sleek elevator behind him—its metallic doors polished to perfection and set apart from the others. "Are you headed upstairs?" he asked. "Yes," Aylin answered, slightly puzzled. "Then join me" She blinked in surprise. "Are you sure?" The assistant’s eyes widened, nearly betraying his composure. "That is unnecessary, sir—" "It’s fine," the man interrupted calmly. The authority in his voice left no room for debate. Aylin hesitated only briefly before offering a grateful smile. "Thank you" She stepped into the elevator. The assistant followed, still visibly stunned. The doors slid shut with a soft chime, sealing them in an atmosphere of quiet elegance. The interior gleamed with mirrored panels and subtle lighting, far more luxurious than any standard elevator. Aylin clasped her hands in front of her, acutely aware of the man standing beside her. "First day nerves?" he asked. She smiled faintly. "Is it that obvious?" "Only slightly," he replied. She let out a soft laugh. "I hope I didn’t leave a bad first impression" He regarded her steadily. "On the contrary. You handled yourself well" Her cheeks warmed. "Thank you… sir" He inclined his head slightly but offered no further introduction. The elevator ascended in silence, the soft hum echoing her racing thoughts. Who is he? she wondered. And why does he feel so… intimidating? The elevator chimed as it reached her floor. As the doors slid open, he stepped aside, allowing her to exit first—a gesture both courteous and commanding. "Be more careful next time," he said. Aylin nodded politely. "I will. Thank you for your kindness" She stepped out, turning briefly to offer one last grateful smile before the doors began to close. Inside, the assistant finally found his voice. "Sir," he whispered urgently, "that was your private elevator" "I am aware," the man replied calmly. "And she—" "—is a new employee," he finished. The assistant blinked in disbelief. "You’ve never allowed anyone else to use it" A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched the man’s lips. "Not until now" As the elevator doors sealed shut, his amber eyes lingered thoughtfully on the space she had occupied moments before. “Interesting,” he murmured. Meanwhile, Aylin stood outside the elevator, exhaling in relief. "That was intense," she whispered to herself. She had no idea who he was. And she certainly didn’t know that she had just ridden in the private elevator of Zane Carrington— The CEO of Carrington Enterprises.
