A Toast To New Beginnings

567 Words
The soft glow of golden lights illuminated the cozy restaurant, casting a warm and inviting ambiance over the room. Gentle music floated through the air, blending with the quiet hum of conversation and the delicate clinking of cutlery. Seated by the window, Aylin admired the city skyline, her eyes reflecting the sparkling lights beyond the glass. A genuine smile curved her lips—a rare and beautiful sight after the trials she had endured. Across from her, Adele lifted her glass with a triumphant grin. "To unemployment," she declared playfully. Aylin laughed. "Very funny" Adele smirked. "Fine. To unjust resignations that lead to better opportunities" Aylin raised her glass. "And to Carrington Enterprises" They clinked their glasses together. "To Carrington Enterprises!" they chimed. Aylin took a sip, warmth spreading through her chest—not from the drink, but from the promise of a new beginning. "I still can’t believe I got the job," she admitted. "It feels so unreal" Adele waved her fork dramatically. "Believe it, darling. You earned it. Besides, they’d be fools to let you slip through their fingers" Aylin smiled softly. "Thank you for believing in me" "Always," Adele replied. "Now eat. Celebrations require good food and excellent gossip" They both laughed, the sound light and carefree. Just then, a shadow fell across their table. "Excuse me," a polite voice said. Aylin looked up to find a well-dressed young man standing before them, his expression confident yet courteous. "I hope I’m not interrupting," he continued. "But I couldn’t help noticing you. Would it be alright if I got your number?" Adele’s eyes sparkled with intrigue, her gaze darting between them. Aylin blinked, caught off guard. The man was handsome and respectful—but her heart remained unmoved. She offered a gentle, apologetic smile. "I’m flattered," she said softly, lifting her left hand. A delicate ring glimmered on her finger. "But I have a boyfriend" The man’s expression shifted to disappointment before he nodded politely. "I understand. He’s a lucky man. Have a wonderful evening" "You too," Aylin replied. As he walked away, Adele leaned forward, her eyes wide with curiosity. "Aylin Everett!" she exclaimed in a hushed whisper. "Since when do you have a boyfriend?" Aylin suppressed a laugh, twirling the ring thoughtfully. "I don’t" Adele stared at her. "Then what was that?" "This?" Aylin held up her hand, the ring catching the soft light. "I bought it for myself. It keeps persistent men at bay" Adele blinked, then burst into laughter. "You’re unbelievable! A fake relationship—really?" "It’s not fake if it doesn’t exist," Aylin replied with a playful smile. "It’s simply… preventative" Adele shook her head in amusement. "And here I thought tonight might be the start of a whirlwind romance" Aylin’s smile softened. "Not yet" "Why?" Adele asked gently. "He was charming" Aylin lowered her gaze, her voice calm but sincere. "Because I’m not ready for a relationship" Adele studied her for a moment before nodding in understanding. "Still healing?" she asked softly. Aylin met her eyes and smiled. "Still choosing myself" Adele’s expression warmed. "That’s my girl" They clinked their glasses once more. "To self-love," Adele declared. "To new beginnings," Aylin added. As laughter filled the air, Aylin glanced at the shimmering city lights outside the window. Her heart felt lighter, unburdened by the past and open—though not yet ready—for whatever the future might hold.
