Chapter 6 ~ Isabelle ~

1139 Words
I was panicking when I heard the wolves gaining on me and their growls getting louder in the woods, while I was running. I got distracted by my wolf, Starlight, introducing herself and telling me about wolves. How we are an Alpha not an Omega, wolf pack hierarchy, and how wolves can be killed by silver. She also told me about my guardian wolf waiting for me on the outskirts of town and kept me on the right track to where I needed to be going. Before she could tell me much about what a guardian wolf was and who they were to me, she yelled at me to run faster. The wolves were gaining on me and I was able to hear them a little clearer. I could see a clear light through the foliage and trees and gave one last burst of energy, bursting through the trees. When I first laid eyes on Nicolas, I slid to a stop staggering back with my hands held up, trembling. My tears came out like a river down my cheeks and I was in a state of panic. Shaking my head back and forth pleading with him not to hurt me, barely able to hear his words. When he took a knee and bared his neck to me, I took in a sharp intake of breath, seeing the most ethereal glowing tattoo I have ever seen. Looking at it, I was in a trance wanting to trace it. I slowly walked up to him, lightly putting the tip of finger on the outline of the wolf and letting it glide down for just a second. Gasping I felt a small rush of tingles, almost like a little electrical shock. Looking up at me I had seen him shiver and heard him gasp. I couldn’t talk, I could only nod to him that we could go. When he helped me into the Jeep, he was careful not to touch my hand for too long. Taking off down the road so fast made me a little dizzy. He handed me some water and a sandwich. It was hard for me to eat with my stomach in knots, but I knew it would help me keep my strength up. I thanked him and sat in silence, pondering what was happening while I ate. It all felt so surreal, almost like a dream, but my body was still in pain from all the running and scrapes I received on the way here telling me how real it is. I must have passed out into a dreamless sleep for a little while, because the next I know I’m startled awake when Nicolas lightly shakes my shoulder. I scream and start to back into the corner of the door, on the verge of another panic attack, forgetting what had happened and where I am. He holds his right hand up, the one that isn’t on the steering wheel, and gently says, ”Hey, little bird, breathe in and out. It’s just me Nicolas, remember? You’re okay, you’re safe. Just breathe with me. In. Out. In. Out. Good, good girl. A few more times, good. Are you ok?” I start to calm down and get my bearings back. I go to nod that I’m ok, but before I can do or say anything he starts to freak out. Which is perplexing, making me c**k my head to the side. ”Oh, my goddess. My Queen, I sincerely apologize for my casualness with you. I promise the nicknames just slipped out and that it won’t happen again. I was only trying to help you calm down, before your panic attack took over. I’m so so sor...” he trails off, looking into my eyes confused, as I put my hand on his shoulder to stop his ramblings. ”Nicolas, please calm down. I’m okay, I promise. I just had a bit of confusion waking up and forgot where I was. I like the nickname, but you can call me Isabelle if you would prefer. It’s going to take a while before I’m anywhere near being able to answer to Queen. I don’t believe myself to be one or worthy of such a title. Also, thank you for your help calming me down.” I say gently to him, softening my eyes. I see Nicolas visibly relax and take a deep breath. He has a slight pink tint to his cheeks as he looks over at me smiling and nods, “Thank you my... Isabelle.” ”Hmm.” I hum to him in thanks, “So, mind telling me where we’re headed?” I nod towards the road. ”Oh, right. Ok, we are headed to the airport and then from there we’ll take the next flight out to Scotland. From there we’ll head to the Red Moon Pack to start your training, werewolf politics, and war strategy. We have had an alliance with them the longest and with every new Alpha their pack has only continued to grow and thrive. For now, we want to continue to keep you safe and out of site. Okay!” ”Okay, sounds good to me.” I smile and nod my head to him. I feel like I can trust him, but people always show their true colors when you need them the most. So, I’ll wait and see if the other shoe drops. It wouldn’t be the first time nor the last. ”How much longer until we make it to the airport?” I ask him curiously. He looks at me, then the clock on the dashboard, then back to me quickly and says, “Umm, I’d say about another twenty minutes, maybe less.” ”Hmm.” I hum and nod my head in acknowledgment. We ride the rest of the way to airport in silence. I quietly observe Nicolas as he drives. His black hair is wavy and mussed. His eyes sparkle like emerald jewels in the sun, with a few laugh wrinkles around his eyes. His skin is a deep olive, filled out with muscles where ever my eyes land on him. He doesn’t look an age over 25. I wonder exactly how old he is. Towering over me, I bet he’s around 6’9 standing with wide shoulders that could take down a bull. We arrive at the airport in no time, before we go in Nicolas hands me an oversized black hoodie to put on over my dirt covered clothes. We get through check-in and security quickly. Now, we have about one hour until we board our plane. Thankfully, there’s no stops or layovers making the flight a little over twelve hours long. Hopefully, I’ll actually be able to sleep on the plane. While we wait we sit in the first class lounge.
