Chapter 5 ~ Nicolas ~

1582 Words
Being alive for over a century, doing the Goddesses biding, has been lonely. I’ve always wondered when I would find my mate, but I am not giving up hope. I have stayed in the shadows listening to the whispers, learning what I could. Although, waiting on my Queen to finally arrive is worth all my troubles. In the beginning, when the Goddess asked me to go on this mission, I was excited and hopeful. Over the years, it was more sorrowful. I had to leave my pack and family, traveling all over the world to train and prepare myself for the day my Queen appears. I’ve meet all kinds of new people, humans and supernaturals alike. Making alliances with those who are trust worthy and searching for clues of my Queen. Learning every technique whether in fighting or strategy, to help her to the best of my ability. It was about five years ago, when the Goddess came to me once again telling me the prophecy was coming of time and that I needed to be ready. I was lead to a human city, on the outskirts biding my time and setting up a safe house to wait. I’m not sure what to expect when I meet her, but I’m hoping for the best, though I know that’s not always the outcome. The safe house is more of a small cabin; with a combined kitchen and living room, a small bathroom, and two bedrooms. I had decided not to decorate, leaving it bare, since we were most likely not stay here long or at all. My goal here, hopefully, when she arrives is to get her checked over, comfortable, and up to speed as quickly as I can. I know we will only have half a day or less, before we need to leave. Her quest, to find her mates, learning everything there is know about the supernatural world, and getting ready for the war that is coming, is fast approaching. I know she’ll be ready, because this is my purpose. I’m excited to finally meet her, but also wishing we had more time. I highly doubt the supernatural council and royals will understand the importance of the war that is coming and will want to try to use her to their benefit. They power hungry greedy mongrels just waiting for the perfect time to pounce. I’m hoping she is ready, because I’m sure our enemies are getting closer. Right now, I’m getting ready for her arrival. Though, I’m not sure exactly when she will get here. I have my bags packed in no time, keeping only minimal belongings here with me. Just the necessities. I have a small bag for weapons and ammunition, another small bag for personal items, and one last small bag with a few pairs of outfits and essentials for my Queen. Last night, in my dreams, the Goddess pulled me to her... *** Waking up in a clearing, surrounded by the forest and colorful wildflowers. I rise and walk towards the pond I have not seen but a few times in my long life. The Goddesses ethereal figure is sitting on the bench with a blue wildflower in her hands. She smiles sorrowfully at me as I approach the bench. When she speaks I watch a tear glide down her cheek. ”My child, the time has come. Your Queen will arrive in the next couple of days. You must prepare, for she is in danger.” Taking a knee, I bow my head in respect, “My Goddess, I understand. Though, I hope all is well, I’m getting a sense of unease. I pray everything will be okay.” ”Rise, my child. All will be as it should. Hard times are not the easiest to watch. Though, my greatest wish is for all my children to be happy. Not all lives begin or end in the best of light. Free will in choices is where your destiny lies and your decisions will take you on your course of life. Be strong, my child. For she will need you in her darkest hour.” Placing my fist over my heart I take an oath, ”Yes, my Goddess. I will protect my Queen and guide her as needed through her journey.” Bending at the waist I bow to my Goddess, before the darkness consumes me. *** I awoke in my bed, looking at the time. Early morning, knowing I wouldn’t get anymore sleep I got up. I grabbed a coffee and some breakfast, before starting my morning exercises. Knowing I needed to prepare for her arrival, I packed and got ready. Then, I awaited for her to arrive. Double checking the best routes for us to leave as quickly as possible. It’s later in the evening when my wolf, Maximum, starts pacing back and forth. I hear faint howls and growls in the distance. Knowing she’s coming and we have less time than I imagined, I make sure everything is loaded in the Jeep for us to take off. The moon is high in the sky, giving little light to the dense forest beyond the tree line. Using my wolfs vision, I am able to see clearer than a human through the thick trees and foliage. I can hear the slight crack of the twigs breaking in the distant with her faint panting and the rustling of leaves on the ground as runs in my direction. I don’t say a word, while I wait for her to break through the tree line and see me. I don’t want to give our location away to the wolves chasing her. I’m tense and anxious, also elated to finally have her with me and under my protection. My hands are shaking and it seems like every second is a minute, every minute an hour. Gritting my teeth I get into a defensive posture, hoping no wolves will be on the hills of her feet. I can hear paws hitting the ground and growls getting louder further south. I don’t want to scare her, but I need to protect her. Her steps are getting louder, she is almost here, just another few minutes. As soon as she burst through the tree line, I’m stunned. She is not what I was expecting. I’m speechless and can’t seem to form words. My arms slowly lower to my sides and my body relaxes. She looks a little ruff from running and younger than I imagined, maybe 17 if that. You can still see the majestic beauty under all the dirt, leaves and sticks, and baggy clothes. You can see she’s malnourished and has not been given proper care. As she skids to a halt panting with her hands up I can see her wide terror filled eyes are a violet and white swirl that glitter slightly, almost like the stars in a galaxy. Her hair is matted and tangled, but looks like it could be a gorgeous white when it’s clean and healthy. Her skin glows in the moonlight, it is so pale almost transparent. She is standing maybe about 5’1. She’s so tiny I’d be towering over her, if she was standing next to me. My senses come back to me when I see her trembling and on the verge of a panic attack as she backs up shaking her head. I quickly take a knee and bow my head in respect saying, “My Queen, it’s nice to finally be able to meet you. My name is Nicolas Knight and I’m here to protect, guide, and train you. You are in danger and it would be best that we leave immediately.” ”What are you talking about!? I’m not a Queen! I’m a nobody. Please, don’t hurt me. I just want to leave. Please!” She pleads through her tears. I turn the right side of my body lowering my neck to the left side in a show of submission and respect, but also to let the moonlight hit my guardian wolf tattoo with the mark of the royal goddesses crest making it glow. I hear her sharp intake of breath and then her light footsteps coming closer. ”My Queen, only you can see my guardian tattoo. For it was placed there by the Moon Goddess, so that you may recognize your most trusted and loyal advisor and guardian. We will do the blood oath when we reach our first destination. With this goddess given guardian tattoo and my oath to our goddess and you, my Queen, I solemnly swear I will protect you to the best of my abilities. And, if you allow we need to leave immediately they are getting closer.” I end on a gasp as she lightly traces my tattoo. What the hell was that!? That’s not suppose to happen! It almost felt like the tingles of a mate bond making me shiver, but it wasn’t as strong I’ve heard them to be. She quickly pulls her hand back, gasping. As I look up at her, she is nodding for us to go. I nod standing up and lead her to my Jeep, opening the passenger door for her and helping her in. Closing the door I rush to the driver side door and jump in. Starting it, asking her buckle up, and taking off down the dirt road towards the city. Thankfully, I don’t see any wolves coming through the tree line.
