Nora was becoming frightened, oh what a night! she turned slowly, the living room was dark but she hadn't turned off the lights, who did? her heart began to pound, she looked back toward the door , ,Kieran she called out, his entire body stiffened, What happened? I heard something, Nora said with so much fright in her voice, where Kieran asked, behind me. Kieran's voice changed instantly step away from the door, Nora didn't move.

There was something in his tone that made her obey, she took one step backward, then another, her eyes remained fixed on the darkness.

"Kieran..." she called out please turn on the lights, I can't they're already on he said.

Silence.

For a moment, neither of them spoke then Kieran swore under his breath, Nora, listen to me she could barely hear him over the pounding of her heart get away from the living room.What is happening?she asked

Move away from the door, she didn't understand but she moved the instant she cleared the doorway, Kieran kicked the door open the force sent it crashing against the wall.

Nora screamed.

A blur shot from the darkness, Kieran caught her around the waist and pulled her against him something slammed into the wall behind them,Nora couldn't breathe she was pressed against Kieran's chest, his arm locked around her so tightly she could feel the strength in it.

For one second, the world seemed to stop she smelled rain.

His heart was beating hard so was hers then she looked up and saw his eyes they weren't brown , they weren't hazel , they were gold Brilliant, unnatural gold. Nora stared at him, he stared back.

Something flickered across his face , shock , recognition then terror,Kieran released her as if he'd suddenly realized what he was doing.

He turned.

The creature was standing in the middle of the living room Nora couldn't understand what she was seeing, It looked almost human , almost .Its body was too large. , its arms too long, its fingers ended in black claws and its eyes stared directly at her.

Nora stumbled backward,what is that? Kieran stepped in front of her, don't move. Kieran, what the hell is that?His shoulders rose and fell slowly then something happened that terrified her more than the creature, his hands began to change, bones shifted, fingers lengthened, dark veins spread beneath his skin, his eyes burned brighter.

Nora covered her mouth in awe.

Nora screamed as they crashed through the coffee table she backed against the wall, her mind refused to process what she was seeing, this wasn't real, it couldn't be

She was dreaming it had to be.

Then the creature turned its head, its gaze found hers and it smiled not with human lips with too many teeth, Nora's body went rigid. The creature whispered one word "Resonant."

Kieran froze, the color drained from his face."What did you call her?" the creature laughed then it disappeared through the broken window. Kieran didn't chase it he simply stood there staring at Nora, she stared back, neither of them spoke.

Finally, Nora whispered, What is a Resonant?Kieran looked away that frightened her more than anything else."Kieran." he closed his eyes, when he opened them again, the gold was fading but something remained in his expression, something she had never seen in another person's eyes.

Fear, you were never supposed to be found, Nora's throat tightened,who was looking for me?

He looked at her the same people who killed your mother her entire body went cold, my mother wasn't killed, she responded with tears in her eyes, Kieran said nothing

Before he could answer, the floor beneath them trembled,once, twice, then the entire apartment shook, dust fell from the ceiling somewhere far below them, something groaned.

Not the building but something alive, Nora looked toward the floor, Kieran's face went pale he walked toward her. Nora, we need to leave, another tremor rocked the building, this time, a crack appeared in the wall, Kieran grabbed her hand his fingers closed around hers.

The instant their skin touched, pain exploded through Nora's body she gasped a strange warmth raced from her palm to her chest, then a symbol appeared beneath her skin.
