But she had no choice. She had said she would do anything for Michael, even die for him. What was being asked was a thousand times worse – not to die – but to live in misery in order to keep him safe.
She would do it.
No matter what it cost, she would do it and count any sacrifice worthwhile, as long as she could save him.
“Very well,” she said, managing to speak calmly. “When he is safely out of the country – I will marry you.”
