Chapter two I slowly opened my eyes whimpering in pain. At first, I furrowed my eyelids slowly, then shortly afterward everything became clearer. I tried to sit upright but a sharp headache struck me and I fell back to the bed. "You should rest some more," I heard a young lady who seems to be almost the same age as me say, she tried to assist me lie back on whatever it is that I just woke up from. I smacked off her hand glaring hard at her. "Who are you? What am I doing here? And where is this?" I fired at her. "You are home Hailey," I heard another voice say from across the room. If not for the throbbing headache threatening to burst through my head right now, I would have bursted into uncontrollable fits of laughter. Home? Here? I took my time and slowly looked around the room, it was a tiny room that looks really creepy, like no one has been in here for decades with the way everything in it looks old and abandoned including the tiny bed that I was laying on. I was surrounded by hefty men, both young and old, the only women in their presence were the young lady that tried to touch me earlier and an old woman. How did I end up here? Have I been kidnapped? "What are you talking about? This is kidnap, let me go," I snapped. "You have not been kidnapped Hailey, you are where you belong, this is your home," one of them said. I stopped listening to him as I suddenly remembered the last incident that occurred before I found myself here. The rain, the thunderstorm, the darkness. Paxton! I remember he was driving me home before the strange rain started. Where is he? What has happened to him? Is he hurt? did they kill him? Or was he also brought here? "Paxton? Where is he?" I asked with my heart beating in my chest, I was afraid to hear any horrible news. "If you are talking about the young man that was with you in the car during the rain, he is safe without a scratch, and he will not remember what happened during the rain, neither will he remember you," he replied. My eyes flew open in shock. What did he just say? Paxton will not be able to remember me anymore? "Who the hell are you all? And what have you done?" I yelled at the top of my voice, I made to stand up with full force but the strong headache and the pain I felt all over my body kept me glued back on the bed, the look in my eyes spoke anger and fury. Whoever they are, how could they do something like this? Why now? After all these years, just last night when I finally caught Paxton's attention and they just had to do this? I thought my life was finally going to take a perfect direction. It is my final year in college and there's nothing particularly interesting about my life, my parents died since my first year in college and I've been all by myself ever since. "Who am I?" I muttered in a low voice, at this point, I was extremely confused, it felt like I do not even know myself anymore. "You are not human, you are a wolf, you are our savior, Hailey, our pack needs you now more than ever," one of them replied and I chuckled bitterly. A wolf? After nineteen years of my life, I suddenly became a wolf. their savior? Isn't this whole thing getting more hilarious? "Wolves change into their wolf forms at some point in their lives, right? Well, I have never changed into one before, neither have I used any wolf ability since I was born, you all have me mistaken," I blurted out. "You haven't been able to change because there has been nothing to trigger it," he replied. "Your mom had an affair with a wolf many years ago and the union produced you, she concealed the pregnancy and went ahead to marry a human and they raised you as one," one of them explained further. "We have been on the search for you for so many years Hailey, may our ancestors bless this day that we found you," another one of them added. "So... why am I here?" I raised an anxious brow focusing on the man seems to be older than them all. I was slowly beginning to accept my faith, I don't think there is a way of this for me anymore. The stories sounded surreal but there seemed to be some points of truth in it, I mean I may not have ever turned into a wolf but I was stronger than every girl of my age right from childhood. Sometimes, I wonder where the sudden strength comes from. And my friends often said that there was always a change in my eye color particularly whenever I was angry. "You'll be our new ruler, together with Jackson," they all chorused as though they have initially rehearsed the sentence and couldn't wait to sing it out to me. "What do you mean? I'm just nineteen, how can I possibly lead people older than me?" My eyes widened as I stared at them anxiously. "It is not done by age here Hailey, you have been chosen to do this with Jackson, you both are our only hope out of this misery," one of them replied. "And who is Jackson?" I asked. "He is the Alpha of our pack and your mate," he replied. Oh, my good lord! So many strange facts and terms in a day. "Okay?" I muttered urging him to explain properly. "The both of you will be getting married as soon as possible, it is the only way to get rid of the curse on us," the old woman in the room spoke up for the first time since the discussion started.
