Chapter four
Hailey's POV
For several seconds I stood frozen on the spot as I stared at the most handsome man I've ever set my eyes on as I pondered over what he just said.
He can't be serious right?
I mean he's not the....
What?
"You... You are...
"Jackson, the Alpha of this pack," he quickly cut in.
Oh my God.
It's really him, my supposed husband.
"I... I am deeply sorry...
"For what? Calling me old and ugly? Or trying to run away so you don't have to marry me?" He sharply cut me off again.
"I didn't mean it like that," I muttered dragging my gaze to the floor.
"Hey c'mon, don't be like that, it's fine I totally understand you, I mean I'll do more than this if I woke up to a new identity in a strange land with strange sentiments," I heard him say and I quickly looked up to his face, he had a small smile at the corner of his lips as he stared at me.
"They wouldn't let me meet you, or say anything more than just your name, I assumed you are an ugly old man who is hiding his face from me, please accept my apologies," I muttered.
"C'mon Hailey, I told you already, it's fine, if for anything, I should be the one apologizing on behalf of my pack for putting you through all this, I can't even imagine how you feel right now," he said softly.
"But you have to understand Hailey, that this must be done, my people have suffered enough," he muttered in a low tone.
Whatever curse they are suffering from must really be a terrible one and I really wished I could help but getting married to him means a lifetime deal, I can't go into that with someone I know nothing about despite his good looks.
"I don't know anything about you Jackson," I mumbled.
He was quiet for a short while.
"Come with me," he said turning around and started walking away.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Please do not ask questions my lady, just come along, I want to show you something," he replied walking ahead.
"Show me here then," I shouted after him.
"I can't, it's a place," he replied.
I heaved out a deep sigh and followed him behind, I suddenly felt less of the pain I felt earlier and the thought of escaping had also totally flown out of my head.
His footsteps were brisk and unbelievably fast, I was practically running to catch up with him.
"Jackson, you do know that I'm unwell right? I can literally pass out if I take another step, and with the rate of your footsteps, I could...
I instantly stopped talking as he suddenly halted and moved away letting me see the view ahead.
I gasped in shock as my eyes steadily took in the surroundings.
We were standing right in front of a small river surrounded by beautiful flowers, at the shore, a bench was constructed with wood.
The sound of birds chirping and the cool breeze from the trees around completed the amazing view.
"Oh my God," I gasped as my hands slowly covered my wide-open mouth.
"This is amazing, so peaceful and quiet, I could stay here all day," I cooed running my eyes around the whole place.
"This is my private relaxation spot, I come around whenever I need some peace and quiet," he said going over to seat on the bench. "No one is allowed in here," he added.
If it is his private spot and no one is allowed then does that mean I'm the only one he's ever brought here?
Oh get a grip of yourself Hailey, don't run ahead of yourself.
"Are you not tired of standing there Hailey?" His voice snapped me back to life.
"Oh... Uhm... Thanks," I stuttered and sat on the bench, though a bit far from him.
Cold silence suddenly set in between us, for several minutes, no one spoke up.
"You know, I always envisioned coming here with my kids, it will be so much fun," he suddenly spoke up and I dragged my gaze towards him.
"Yeah, I love kids, I can't wait to start having mine," he said and my breath suddenly hooked up in my chest and I coughed out furiously.
"Hey, I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," he apologized but looking closely, the look on his face was saying otherwise, mockery was written all over him.
He couldn't hold it back anymore and bursted into laughter.
"You are scared of having kids?" He asked amidst laughter.
"I'm not alright? It's just that babies are a lot, it could be so hard raising them," I replied.
"Not when you raise them with the right partner," he suddenly blurted out with a serious look on his face.
I stared at him, resisting the strong urge to smile.
He seems like someone who's going to make one incredibly responsible father.
"So the curse... How did it come about?" I asked.
He released a deep sigh and looked down.
"Someone from my pack had this shady business with a witch, it didn't end well and he ran to us with a fake story, we believed him and had the witch killed, but before she died she placed a curse on the entire pack," he said with a sad frown on his face.
"We can only change into our wolf forms during full moon, and it also became very painful to change, Hailey it is terrible watching my people go through so much pain and I can't do anything to help them," he muttered the last part sadly.
I sighed quietly as I stared at his sad face.
"It was a green light for our enemies as they all came at us once, all of them, werewolf hunters, vampires and all, we can't use our werewolf abilities so we couldn't save ourselves, we've lost so many of us Hailey, we can't continue like this," he narrated sadly.
Somehow, I couldn't bare to see him so sad.
"When is the marriage?" I found myself saying.
