Miranda's POV:
Everyone will agree that I'm not thinking straight right? Yes. I believe I'm not in my right state of mind. I know right, but then, opportunity comes but once they say, the only thing I've been holding on to is the duration of this so called 'contract —8months.
It is just for 8months gir...l! I said rolling my eyes.
After 8months, I will have my life back, not like the old Miranda but the new me. Besides, there will be no string attached, we may even not be staying in the same room.
Talkless of sleeping on the same bed, there will be no s*x afterall, I will still have my virginity retained.
But what do I really have to loose in this?
A heavy sigh escapes me.
My life is going to be private for the whole period of 8months, I had already told my boss and he agreed.
I really do not have anything to loose if things work out just the way I plan it. I said affirmatively.
Scrolling through the page of the Harrison's company, the possessions, influence, names and their credibility, my jaws drop open in shock with my eyes wide open.
This family must really be huge, no wonder they are always the talk of the town.
But why can't I see a single picture of my boss, Derrick Harrison, on the company's page? Not even one, well, I think that is to my advantage. I shrug nonchalantly.
But, can I really keep this private, atleast grandma will not be able to see the pictures flying around, and that is if there would be one. I shook off my head in disagreement.
After the contract ends, I will set grandma up with a mini mart, and travel out of this country.
I really wish I can open up to grandma about this, but I can't.
I don't have option, I really do not have any other options. Atleast, this is far better than releasing myself just like that to the riff raff.
The thought of the Mario club man always disgust me that I want to vomit.
I nervously bit my lips as I lean on the bed staring at the ceiling in my tiny room.
I had received a text from my boss earlier this morning to stop coming to work and to get prepared for the wedding next week.
But, how do I tell grandma? I'm going to be leaving her for 8months? I sighed for what seemed to be the millionth time.
Knowing fully well that grandma cannot see, is she going to be all alone without a support?
Confusion spread across my face, I raise my legs up against the wall turning to the other side of the bed, backing my room entrance.
There is no how she's going to support my decision, even if it just for a month. Grandma will be so much disappointed in me and disagree totally. I must not let her know the truth.
"Who are you?" Grandma's voice was like a splash of cold water, jolting me back to reality.
"It's me grandma" , I quickly reply sharply.
"You? Who? Miranda?" "What are you still doing at home?" "Are you not going to work?"
Her words tumbled out hurriedly.
I stand up instantly with speed and hold her hands, helping her to sit down on the bed while I face her sitting down as well.
Grandma, I want you to rest a little bit before coming to your room, I fold her hands into mine.
"Miranda, what's the matter?" She raised her eyebrow in confusion.
"My boss has transferred me to another branch of our company in another state." I said sharply.
Her mouth drops open in surprise, silence falls as her eyes grew wide in shock.
I know her fear, my grandma cannot see, how is she going to survive all by herself without me.
I'm the only family she has, she's all I got as well, tears moistened all around my eyes.
But I really have to make this decision, I wish I have other options.
"It's just for 8months and I will be coming home every month, besides, I will employ a young lady that will always be with you." I said with a fake smile leaving her with no chance of suspecting me crying.
"Why will you employ someone? How will you pay her?" Her concern voice sounding so low.
Of course, she's not aware that we are about to get rich. The amount of money my boss had promised to give me for the contract can send grandma to coma if she knows about it.
"Grandma, don't worry about that", I said pulling her closer with a tight hug.
"My boss will be the one to settle that and the hospital bills for your monthly eyes medicine."
After a little while of silence, she disengages from the hug, her hands cradled my face with a tender touch and a little smile spread across her face.
"Miranda", she said.
My heart stopped, waiting for her final blow. Will grandma tell me not to go? Is she going to tell me to stop the work and resign? My stomach dropped with a mix of fear and anxiety.
"I'm sure you know that you're all I got in this world." My eyes welled up with tears.
"Please", she continues.
"Don't disappoint me, I will always believe you no matter what." She said, after which she finds her way to the door and leave the room.
Tears streaming down my eyes, I couldn't hold it in any longer, the tears finally broke free, and I subbed uncontrollably.
My phone buzzed on the bed, I look down at the screen, the bank's name flashed across the screen followed by a single message of credit alert from Derrick Harrison.
I wipe off the tears that blur my vision for the last time, I scream at the top of my voice, such an amount has never entered my account before —$50,000.
My phone buzzed again for the second time, another credit alert of $20,000 but this comes with another message, the message reads: The wedding will be taking place next week, get yourself anything you will need with that money.
