Sophie glanced at her wedding photos on her phone with a smile on her face. It was her first anniversary and she was excited to celebrate it with her husband over dinner in the evening. Glancing at the clock on the wall with its hand creeping towards two pm. She had planned a surprise dinner for her husband and had taken the afternoon off which is something she rarely did to prepare. It wouldn't have been possible if she worked for someone but with her being self-employed, it had its perks which included the ability to manage her schedule which usually results in longer hours but today was different. She had spent the last week planning for this day and had ordered a specially made cake from a bakery and had ordered takeout from an Italian restaurant while also picking the wine they had on their first date. She was determined to make their anniversary a special one. Once the clock struck two o'clock, she shut down her laptop, gathered her things, and stood up to leave but not before calling for her manager and assistant. Picking up the intercom, she spoke into it, “Lydia, can you come into my office real quick? Thank you”. A couple of seconds later, a lady in corporate attire stepped into the office. “You sent for me madam”. “Yes I did, I would like you to take over once I leave”. Sophie said. “you're leaving early”? She asked in surprise. “This isn't like you ma'am”. “You're right about that but today is my anniversary so I want to be home early to celebrate with my husband”. Sophie replied with a soft smile. “Happy anniversary ma'am”. Lydia said. “Thank you. I'll be on my way now and try closing the store early”. Sophie said as she approached her office entrance. “I know how much you love work”. “I'll do that ma'am”. Stepping out of the store, Sophie began making her way to get home. And since the boutique she ran wasn't far from her house, she didn't see the need to get a car for herself. Instead, opting to trek the distance. Before she reached her home, she decided to stop by the bakery which was responsible for baking the special cake. She had instructed them to make sure it was ready on her anniversary so she could show it to him along with the other surprises she had for him. Approaching the receptionist, she spoke up; “excuse me, good afternoon”. “Good afternoon ma'am, how may I help you”? She asked. “I made an order for an anniversary cake that is supposed to be ready today”. Sophie replied. “May I get your name please”. “Sophie Peterson”. “Oh, your cake is ready as per your order ma'am. If you could just sign here, I'll get someone to deliver it to your house”. The receptionist replied while producing a book on which Sophie signed. “Thank you very much ma'am. I'll have someone deliver it to your home right away”. She said. “That'll be very much appreciated”. Sophie said with a smile on her lips before turning around to leave. Three minutes later she got to her apartment, Sophie fumbled with her keys before opening the door with a delivery guy coming in behind her with the cake in his hand. “Where should I drop this ma'am”? He asked. “You can drop it on the dining table”. She replied, gesturing to it. At that point, she noticed a handbag on the chair. Stepping closer to it, she picked it up. “Did Alexander get me a new bag”? She asked with a smile on her lips. “But I have enough bags though”. “I'll be leaving now ma'am”. The delivery man said, breaking her out of her thoughts. “Thank you”, she replied, turning to glance at him. “Shut the door on your way out”. As the delivery person left, she inspected the bag and on opening it, noticed that there were things in it. Bringing them out, she discovered that they belonged to someone else. Going through the things in the back, she saw a picture of a red-haired woman and an ID card. From the corner of her eyes, she noticed a blouse on the floor. “Who owns all these”? She asked in bewilderment. As if to answer her, she heard moaning sounds from the room she shared with her husband. Walking hesitantly in fear of what she might find, she came before her room with the moaning sounds being really loud at this point. Pushing the slightly open door, she stepped into the room to see her husband between the legs of the woman whose picture she saw in the handbag. “Yes! Harder”! She moaned loudly. “What is going on here”?! Sophie screamed. Hearing that, Alexander extricated himself from the woman before falling on his back and his bed. “What are you doing here”? He asked in surprise as he took in Sophie's figure. “You are asking me that”?! She replied with hurt and disappointment all over her face. “You are the one with a woman in our matrimonial home, on our matrimonial bed”. “You were not supposed to come back home this early”. Alexander replied, before standing up and adjusting his underwear. “You might have forgotten but this is also my home so I can come back whenever I want to”. Sophie replied calmly, having gotten her emotions under control. “Babe, who is this”? The lady on the bed asked. “This is the woman I told you was my wife”. Alexander replied calmly before picking up a glass of water on the side table and drinking it. “Oh”. The lady replied nonchalantly before standing up to her feet, walking towards Sophie, and extending her hand towards her. “I'm Catherine McCartney, nice to finally meet you”. She said. “So you knew he was married and still went ahead to have an affair with him”? Sophie asked with wide eyes without taking her hand. “Of course”. She replied with a shrug. “I go for what I want”. “How could you do this to me”?! Sophie asked with tears “Look here you b***h”! Alexander began.
