Kai’s words radiate in my ear as I find myself in a state of total disbelief, unable to grasp what he’s saying. I clearly heard what he said but I just can’t put myself in a position of believing it. I wait for Kai to speak more words, to say that he’s joking but the profound expression on his face makes it clear that the only joke here is the fact that I thought I would be able to protect my father. At that moment, my mind instantly goes numb as my heart sinks into my chest. It feels like I am being suffocated from my own thoughts - the pooling thoughts of what Kai had just unleashed on me.
