The One Who Never Forgot

720 Words
London. The city moved fast. Too fast. People rushing. Lights flashing. Life continuing. But for Parth— everything had been standing still for five years. His office overlooked the city skyline, but he wasn’t looking at it. He never really did. Because no matter how far he came— his mind always went back to one place. Jaipur. And one person. Ivara. — “Bhai…” Rohit’s voice came through the phone. Serious. Unusual. Parth didn’t respond immediately. Because something in that tone— felt different. “Bol,” he said finally. A pause. And then— “I saw her.” Silence. Complete. Dead. Because those three words— weren’t normal. They weren’t casual. They meant only one thing. Parth’s grip tightened on the phone. “…what?” “Ivara,” Rohit said. “This morning. Mall me.” Parth stood up instantly. His chair slid back with a sharp sound. “What nonsense—” “I’m not joking.” His voice was firm. Real. “She was there. In Jaipur.” Parth’s heartbeat started racing. Loud. Fast. Uncontrolled. “That’s not possible,” he said. But his voice— wasn’t confident. Because deep down— he knew. If Rohit said it— it was true. “She didn’t remember me properly,” Rohit continued. “Parth…” A pause. “She doesn’t remember you.” The words hit. Harder than anything. Parth closed his eyes. Just for a second. Because this— this was the one thing he wasn’t ready to hear again. “Of course she doesn’t,” he said quietly. His voice calm. Too calm. Because it wasn’t new. She had forgotten him before. Completely. But hearing it again— after years— felt like reopening a wound that never healed. “She asked your name,” Rohit added softly. “And when I said it…” A pause. “…something changed in her.” Parth’s eyes opened. Slowly. “What do you mean?” “She reacted,” Rohit said. “Like she knows you… but can’t remember.” Silence. And this time— it was different. Because this wasn’t complete loss. This was— something coming back. — “Bhai…” Rohit’s voice lowered. “There’s something wrong.” “She’s not acting normal. Arohi was there… she didn’t let us talk.” Parth’s jaw tightened. “Arohi…” That name meant one thing. Control. Secrets. Silence. “What else?” he asked. “She’s searching,” Rohit said. “Tumhe.” Those two words— changed everything. — Parth walked toward the window. His reflection stared back at him. Same face. Same eyes. But not the same person. Because five years ago— he had lost her. Not physically. But completely. “She chose to forget,” he whispered. More to himself than to Rohit. “No,” Rohit said. Firm. “She didn’t choose this.” A pause. “There’s something else going on.” Parth didn’t reply. Because that thought— was dangerous. Hope. The one thing he had buried years ago. “I’m coming,” he said suddenly. Rohit froze. “What?” “I’m coming to Jaipur.” His voice steady now. Decided. “Bhai, think—” “I have thought,” Parth cut him off. “For five years.” Silence. And then— this time— his voice wasn’t calm. It was raw. “If she’s there… and she’s searching…” A pause. “…then this time, I’m not letting her go.” — Call ended. Parth stood still. His heartbeat loud. Because this wasn’t just about seeing her again. This was about everything he never got to say. Everything she never remembered. Everything that was left incomplete. — Meanwhile— in Jaipur— Ivara sat on her bed, staring at the same name written on her phone. Parth. She had typed it herself. Repeatedly. Like writing it might bring something back. But it didn’t. Only a feeling. Strong. Unexplainable. Painful. Her fingers hovered over the screen. Should she search? Should she ask? Should she find him? Her heart answered before her mind could. Yes. — But what she didn’t know was— this time— she wouldn’t have to search. Because the one person she forgot… was already on his way back to her.
