Zarah's Awake

1007 Words
Like My little brother and my little sister. I would one day repay them for their kindness and the risks they are taking to help me. Each time Marie ensured no other kitchen workers attended to me so she controlled my food ensuring I had enough to eat to gain my strength back. She hid as much food as she could inside the small half bread she was allowed to give me. Though this last time, the meat had a bitter taste to it. I did not question it at all as it was better than starving to death and I do not feel sick. I don’t believe Marie would be the type of person to poison me and I trust her enough to eat it anyways I shoved it down until every last crumb was gone within a few minutes my eyes were heavy and I laid down on my mat, and pulled the thin blanket to my shoulders. I must have passed out because as I woke up, it was the start of a new day. The sun had just risen not wanting the guards to know that I was awake. I stayed on my Mat staring at the ceiling. I closed my eyes and replayed conversations and memories that Zara and I had together a small smile crept across my lips Zara. I miss you, please, please wake up soon Z. I said loudly to myself it was like a goddess herself had heard my prayer. She gave me a blessing I’d Longed for, for the last two years a beautiful voice rang out in my head, "Not so loud Scar..calm down, I'm awake now" a sweet, sweet voice I’ve missed so much echoed in my head. I could have cried hearing the voice I sat up quickly. "ZARAH!! Zara is that you" I half screamed in my mind tears swelling up in the corners of my eyes. "Ooh ouch not so loud” she said shaking her head trying to shake the sleep off. "I am sorry Scar. I think I passed out for a moment. That last beating took its toll" Zarah said. I sat up straighter on the mat, my eyes wide "Zarah I’ve missed you so much” tears fell from my eyes streaming down my face. "Missed me? How long was I out for?" She said fully awake now. "2 years Z it’s been 2 years since I’ve heard your voice.” I said. I felt the anger boiling inside us. “Scar... What happened?" She asked I could feel her stretching out in my mind. It felt like lights were coming back on fast and hot it made me slightly dizzy and I braced myself on the mat. "What do you mean two years? tell me everything" she growled out menacingly. I spent the next few hours talking to her and telling her everything that happened. The bad, the beatings then about Caleb and Marie helping me. I would love a chance to thank them for waking me up and for helping you of course, Zara said. Caleb visits me daily so I’m sure you’ll have your chance to thank him. "But right now you need to regain your strength back" I said concerned. "I am almost back to full strength. I don't know why it took so long to wake up. I should have been awake before now" she said curtly. It was as if he had read my thoughts or listened in on our conversation "Wolfsbane and silver" he said coming into view I'd been lost in thought and didn't realize he'd come in. "It had not completely gone out of your system" Caleb's voice from beside the cellsaid. I looked at him questionly. "What?" I asked. I was thinking about why your wolf had not woken up yet though you are a lot stronger now than what you had been a few months ago. I gotta tell you I was pretty stumped and then it hit me. My mom was a healer before she died and the new healer took over her practice. She told me about a silver based wolfsbane. The strand of it is very rare and they thought it was extinct. You see back in the old days it was used to pacify alphas that got unruly. The Lycan king used it to sever the link between wolf and human making them nothing more than a human. In most cases that would almost kill a normal werewolf but in alpha's it puts your wolf half asleep and makes the human half extremely weak. It is a poison that will never work its way out of the system on its own. If the person is not treated with the antidote then they will remain that way forever" He said leaning against the bars. Afew months ago you told me it was like a wall was separating you and your wolf. I remembered hearing about something like that as a kid So I have been searching through my mothers notes and texts when I can sneak into the clinic at night. My mother encoded the formula to the antidote in the text. I found it and I found the antidote its strand is a rear wolfsbane called Nectar of the devil. It took me a while to find the ingredients as there were several rare ones I had to locate But i was able to locate them all. As I said it had almost severed the connection between you and your wolf that left behind nothing but the ability to barely heal." he explained with a look of hope in his eyes. "Late last night I found the last ingredient. I mixed the antidote and Last nigh Marie mixed it into your food and fed it to you. If I am right then your wolf should have awoken by now. Is she..." he trailed off before starting again. "Is she awake now?" he asked with his hands on the bar's curiosity in his eyes.
