An accident

Wren's POV Adalyn and I were stunned, but she stood up and stared angrily at the man. "That was a pretty rude thing that you did there. Are you going to pay for that drink?"I had yet to move as I couldn't understand what the man was doing. He looked at Adalyn and smiled, as if to reassure her. Then he turned to the bartender and ordered a low-alcohol drink for me, "Witch's special drink will give you an awful hangover if you drink too much. Have a regular one."He handed me the drink and looked at Adalyn again, "Do you want one?""No," Adalyn replied awkwardly, "I don't drink and I don't think my friend should drink that either.""I did nothing to drink. You would have seen me if I did. I am just trying to help your friend here. I know the goal here is to get drunk, but I think you would want her to not get sick before the night is over, right?"I closed my eyes, feeling a little numb on my cheeks. Every time I drank, I would turn red like this. The alcohol that had been constantly poured into my stomach finally took effect. My throat was hot, and it felt like the air I exhaled was too hot. I picked up the iced drink and drank it all in one go. The cold sensation made me feel much more comfortable."Wren!" Adalyn said, taking the glass from me but it was already too late."It's okay," I replied. My words slightly slurred.Adalym put down the glass and frowned a little. I hesitated for a moment before I was about to order a Long Island Iced Tea the man ordered another cocktail for me, still low in alcohol.Looking at the drink, I suddenly thought of Ralph. He always ordered low-alcohol cocktails for me too. Thinking of this, I felt sad again. I drank the drink in one gulp and said, "Thank you, but you don't have to keep ordering for me." I smiled as I looked at the empty glass in my hand. "I came here to get drunk.""Why?" he asked. This man looked about the same age as my father and had a kind aura that made people relax easily."Sorry, is it too forward of me to ask?" he apologized."No, it's fine," I said, rubbing the cold glass with my fingertips. "I'm just," I paused for a moment, suddenly not knowing what to say. "I have a lot on my mind."Maybe it was because of the alcohol, but I urgently needed an outlet to vent everything that had happened in the past two days and try to forget about it all and move on."Maybe you can talk to a stranger like me?" he said. "Many things are hard to talk about with people close to you, I know from experience."I didn't refuse because I really needed to vent."Where do I start... I have a boyfriend whose birthday is coming up in a few days. I went to his pack a few days early and that night, I told him I would take a shower and wait for him in his room. But I went to the wrong room instead. Isn't that ridiculous?""Not really, just a small mistake.""No, it's not a small mistake. I... I went to the wrong room, so in the end, I... I slept with his brother."The man next to me paused for a moment. "Do they look alike?"I lowered my head. "A little bit.""But not enough to not be able to tell them apart?"I nodded. "... Yeah.""So why did you make a mistake?""The room wasn't lit up at the time and there was a scent in the room. I thought it was something he had prepared... but then..." I said, regretfully rubbing my face."But that's not your fault. It was just an unfortunate accident, wasn't it?"I closed my eyes and smiled. Despite my slow mind, I had to admit that my anxiety had miraculously decreased significantly."And then?" he continued to ask. "Is your boyfriend going to break up with you because of this?"I shook my head. "The next morning, after realizing that I had slept with the wrong person, I immediately went to find his room again and apologize. But when I entered his room, I saw him naked in bed asleep with my best friend."He grunted in disapproval before taking a sip from his drink. "He cheated on you," he finally said after processing what I told him.My heart sank at hearing him say that. I was avoiding admitting that Ralph had cheated. None of this made any sense. I tried to ignore what I saw, but I saw them. Ralph cheated on me with my best friend. But, a voice in the back of my mind kept whispering what if it was an accident like it was with me.I lowered my head and whispered, "I don't know He must have seen through my thoughts and didn't mention it again. He just asked, "So what's been bothering you? Is it because you feel guilty even though he cheated on you with your friend because you also did something wrong?"I bit my lip before saying, "It's a little bit of both.""But entering the wrong room was just an accident, wasn't it? It's not what you really intended, but he did something that hurt you after you didn't arrive at his room on time," he said, as if he could read my mind. "Even if there were any unavoidable reasons, he wouldn't sleep in the same bed as your friend. Maybe you'll think he might have encountered some other situation.""But you have to understand, that's his home, the place he knows best. He had to invite Clover there. I can't see that being a mistake or accident like the situation was with me.""Then, this is not your fault at all, child," the man's deep voice comforted me. "He was the one who betrayed you first.”
