A few minutes later we were all in the underground parking lot. "Abby, you're going with us because your parents are going to have to wait a while longer to leave," my mother warned her. -As? How long do they leave? she asked Candice, her mother. "Calm down, honey, we'll leave today." We just have to wait for something and then we'll catch up with them. We'll be out of here in a few hours,” her mother replied, eyeing her husband next to her and then turning her full attention back to her daughter, Abby nodded. I said goodbye to Abby's parents with a "See you later," then climbed in the back of the truck, staying on the left side, and through the window I saw my father having a conversation with Luka, Abby's father. The sound of the vehicle door closing made me look away from them, I met Abby's sleepy face, she smiled slightly and her dark green eyes caught a sparkle that I knew very well. "I want to use your lap as a pillow," he expressed his idea. "You're already affected by sleep, huh?" —I mentioned, she shrugged and yawned placing her head on my lap, arranged her legs by flexing them on her free seat. Two hours later my butt was already aching from sitting. -Still a long way? I asked for the third time. "If you keep asking the same question, you'll end up right here, Mia," my father replied. -That? Are you going to get me out of the truck in the middle of the field? I said sarcastically, leaning forward and turning my face a little to one side so I could see him. "If you keep talking," he warned. "How cruel," I mentioned, letting myself fall against the back of the seat, I turned my face towards the window and the only thing I saw was a landscape clear of trees, it was beautiful but seeing it so often was already tiring. Half an hour of silence later, we crossed a roundabout, from there we followed the route straight ahead, it seemed to have no end, nor other roads from what I could see. We passed a gas station without stopping. "I wanted to go to the bathroom," I protested. No one answered me, so I decided to return to my previous position and continue looking out the window. "Now they're going to have to put up with the smell in case I get loose..." I trailed off and laughed wickedly. —Ah! Let's throw her out of the car now! Abby exclaimed, and I turned on her with a gesture of complete indignation. "I'd love to, but…his mother won't let me do it," my father teased, glancing briefly at the woman next to him and then back in the rearview mirror to see me. "Hey, what am I listening to everything!" "I think we're already short on supplies," my mother commented, "can you hold out, darling?" She looked at me. "The desire is gone, but... yes," I answered. "I need more oreos!" Abby urged eagerly. "If they give you more oreos, I'll demand my nutella," I decided. "No candy," my mother determined. "Ugh," Abby wailed, leaning back in her seat. "We'll see," we heard my father say, he was very condescending with us. Abby straightened up again more enthusiastic, she looked at me and winked. I looked away from her with mock indignation and annoyance. "I still remember that you wanted to kick me out of the car." —Oops. -AHA. "We'll be here in less than ten minutes, girls," my father warned. "I'll go prepping for the descent," she teased, grabbing her phone before looking back at me. A reconciliation selfie? -No. "How not?" She uttered in disbelief leaning into me, her shoulder leaning against mine. Come on, smile,” she said, placing her phone camera in front of us. I made an ugly face and she captured it. "Beautiful, I'll put it on my i********: story," she said, teasing me. —Don't even think about it. -You forgave me? -Maybe. She laughed and looked out the window. She watched as she kept her phone in the waistband of her pants. Preparing for the descent, huh? "We're about to go down, aren't we?" —She said when he watched me see what she was doing. He returned his attention to the road. Hey, look at those cars, they're the same ones I saw at the gas station. I moved closer to her to look in the same direction. —They are security, who are they protecting? -continuous-. I saw those who were outside dressed in suits worn by bodyguards... and they are — "handsome" she said the last word without speaking, just moving her lips so that only I understood her. You did not see them? "We went by so fast" I raised my voice on purpose so my father could hear me, I heard him snort immediately "…that I hardly saw anything." I grabbed my mobile phone to be able to see the time but I found with the beautiful coincidence that it was turned off, without battery. I put it back where it was. "Well now maybe you'll have the chance because here they come, they're getting closer and closer." Abby's comment made me look back towards the road, and then I saw two black cars approaching at full speed. But without a doubt, the one that caught my attention the most was the black van that followed them and another car behind it. "Wow, it looks like they want to pass us," Abby spoke again. "Oh no," I heard my father say. I heard a sigh from him, I immediately looked at him and saw him looking at my mother in a disturbing way. "I told you this was dangerous," she accused him. "I thought we'd be lucky," my father replied, accelerating the vehicle. -What is happening? -I asked them. But I didn't get an answer for either of them. "They're coming," Abby called, infected by my parents' sudden concern.
