Chapter Six

2204 Words
All week seemed nice and calm since we made up. It was nice to work with him for a change. Because of that, Saturday felt like it came quicker than usual. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. I hope it’s not Jamie, I’m not ready yet. The person I didn’t want it to be had be the one at door. Always the case for me. “Hey. You okay to sit and wait for a bit? I’m not quite ready yet.” “Yeah sure.” “Thanks. I’ll be less than five minutes. I promise.” “That’s what they all say,” he laughed. “Oh ha-ha. Very funny. I won’t be long.” I ran up the stairs hearing him play with the dog while he waited. “Hey Keira! I’m on a mission to make you laugh all day and to find you a new outfit for tonight. No arguments.” “Jamie no! You are not getting me a new outfit. I have plenty of clothes here.” “No arguments. I want to treat you like a princess today. It’s my way of saying sorry properly for being an arsehole to you.” “You’re not going to let me change your mind, are you?” “Nope.” “Fine, but you need to know that I am picking your outfit then.” “Suits me!” I ran back down the stairs to find Jamie waiting at the door. “What? Have I got something on my face?” “No. You just look pretty today.” “So, I’m not every day then?” “I’m not saying that!” “Jamie, I’m messing with you.” “Yeah I knew that!” “Yeah of course you did. Now let’s go,” I said pushing him out of the door. We got into his car. It’s the cleanest car I have ever seen. “You cleaned your car?” “Yep. Just for you! I did say I would treat you like a princess, so I’ve got to have things nice and clean too.” “You i***t! Like I would care.” “It needed to be done anyway...so really you helped.” I smiled at him while looking through his music to see what I could sneak on. Perfect! A bit of nineties music will do. I stuck it into the CD player and started to sing along and dance the best I could while sitting down. All I heard was Jamie beside me laughing. “What?” “Nothing. I just love the way you suddenly burst into song.” “Why a thank you!” I said taking a bow the best I could. We arrived at the shopping centre and started going into different clothes shops. We had such a laugh trying on different outfits. It was like in the movies. I also couldn’t help myself and picked him a horrible outfit to try on too. It had to be done and I must admit he did try to flaunt it. But on a serious note, I chose him a new pair of jeans, a white shirt and a black leather jacket. Don’t know what it is but I do like a man in a leather jacket. Even if I can’t have him, I can certainly eye him up. He did good himself too. A knee length red dress, a black leather jacket that just went over my boobs and knee high black boots. For a macho man, he did good. Better than I thought he would. We went and sat down in a nearby cafe for something to eat and drink before heading off back home. We basically talked about ourselves a bit more than what we already knew about each other, a little bit about what will be happening tonight and a load of nonsense too. Jamie paid (like he said he would) and we headed back towards the car. I just couldn’t help myself and had to link arms with him. I could feel himself tense up at first then he relaxed, allowing me to carry on. We finally got to the car and started to head home, when he turned to me and thanked me for coming with him. “My pleasure. It was miles better than being sat at home bored. Besides you know I would come with you anytime. I had fun today. All thanks to you!” “My jobs done then!” “What do you mean by that?” “I’ve noticed that you’ve been a bit down lately and it confirmed what I was thinking when I overheard you and Gemma talking at work.” “What did you hear exactly?” “Not much. Just Gemma saying something like ‘don’t let it get to you.’ It’s none of my business what’s happened but I thought I would cheer you up somehow.” “Oh okay. Thanks for all of this then. It definitely cheered me up.” “Good.” “Oh, and don’t be mad at me.” “Why would I be mad at you?” “Mark’s out with a bunch of his mates and he’s asked to meet up later. So, I said it was okay. So please don’t wind him up and no fighting. Okay?” “Yes, that’s fine. No promises though. Just keep him away from me. He’s not as innocent as you may think.” “It’s both of you. I will be telling him too. I’m not just singling you out.” “Okay fine I promise. But if he does start, sorry now for my actions. Why you with him anyway? He’s a bit of a douchebag.” “Well he isn’t to me. Besides we’re not together yet. We’re just dating.” “Ah right. So, you can see other people?” “Yeah, I suppose so, until we decide on whatever is happening between us. Anyway...What’s with the interrogation?” “I just want to make sure he is treating you well. The same I would if it was Gemma or Steph.” “You don’t need to worry about me. I can take care of myself.” “I know but it’s my manly side coming out.” “What you have one?” I laughed at him. “Oh ha-ha. You’re so funny.” “I know I am,” I winked at him in confidence. We finally arrived back at my place. “You want to come in for a bit?” “I would but I need to get ready for tonight. It takes me a while to be perfect,” he grinned. “You’re worse than us females but I see your point,” I laughed. “Oi! Yeah you’re probably right though to be honest.” “Well thanks for today. Hopefully tonight will be better.” “That it will if I’m there.” “Ooo...mister full of himself.” With that I left his car and started to get ready myself with the outfit he chose for me. About an hour had passed when I heard Gemma walk through the door. She ran into my room like something hectic had happened. “Well?” “Well, what?” “How did it go with lover boy?” “He is not my lover boy and we had fun. Besides I’m dating Mark.” “Yeah dating! Doesn’t mean you can’t see other people.” “Yeah I know but Jamie will never happen!” “You never know. Weirder things have happened.” “Like what?” “Nathan and Zoe. Now that’s a pairing.” “Ha-ha. Yeah that’s true. I never would have expected that.” “Yep. She is way out of his league. So, you never know. Not that Jamie is out of your league. He would be over the moon if he had you.” “Yeah, yeah. Whatever,” I replied blushing. We both finished getting ready and headed towards our first night club Sparks. We walked in and saw Jamie in a corner pulling yet another girl, while everyone else was sat at the table including Mark, George and Jamie’s friends. “Trust you two to be the last ones to arrive!” “Well got to look my best for you, haven’t I? Anyway, have you two been behaving?” “I can vouch for them both. They said hi and that’s about it,” Nathan declared. “About time!” Jamie said making me jump while putting his arm around my shoulders. I moved a little to my left to make his arm fall off me. He looked at me as if to say, ‘what have I done?’ In which I replied with a stare of ‘you know what you’ve done’. He’s just trying to get a reaction off Mark which he didn’t get all night. Mark stayed away from him really. But to be fair Jamie was with that blonde he was having it off with when we arrived all night anyway. He was with us for about an hour added up in total and most of that was moving to different clubs. Which of course that girl and her friends followed us to. We would literally be in a club for five minutes, then she would come through the door. I’m glad she wasn’t trying to be sneaky in finding Jamie. I’ve never seen a girl so desperate to get attention off a guy. I wouldn’t dare. I just looked from afar. I’m not a very forward person. “Damn!” I shouted. “What’s up?” Gem asked. “I’ve just had a text off Steve, you know the one I go to football with?” “Yeah I know who you mean.” “He can’t go to tomorrow's game with him not being very well over the past couple of days. How am I supposed to find a replacement this soon? You won’t come as you don’t like football. Who else could I ask?” “Mark, Nathan and last resort Jamie?” “Yeah I’ll ask now.” I walked over to Mark and asked him first but unfortunately, he was going to be out all day with his nieces and nephews. I then walked up to Nathan and asked him if he wanted to come with me. But before he could answer Jamie came in shouting “I’ll come!” “I asked Nathan first Jamie!” “Oh, come on Keira. I’d love to go. We had such fun today, why not make it a full weekend?” “I don’t know if I could cope with a full weekend with you too,” I smirked at him. “Before this goes any further. It’s supposed to be nice weather tomorrow, so Zoe and I were planning on going out to the beach anyway. So sorry Keira you might have to put up with Jamie for another day.” “Ha! You’re stuck with me!” “Fine you can come. But do not be late! Football is very important to me.” “Scouts honour,” he said putting his two fingers up like a scout. “Good! I’ll message you in the morning then?” “Yeah sounds like a plan.” “You best get back to your lady friend she’s looking lonely and desperate by the looks of it.” “That’s how I like them.” “Go now Jamie before I slap you!” “Gone!” After that we never really saw Jamie for the rest of the night. Don’t know why he bothers coming with us if he hardly spoke to any of us. It’s his friends I feel sorry for the most. Don’t get me wrong they are nice lads, but Jamie’s supposed to be with them not us. But at least we all hung around each other until people started to head home. Steph was first seeing as she was opening the cafe in the morning. Then Nathan and Zoe, leaving me, Gemma, Mark, George and about three of Jamie’s friends to carry on the night until closing time at two. I could stay out a little longer seeing as I have the day off for the footy. At the end, Gem and I said bye to everyone and stood outside waiting for our taxi to arrive to take us home. Mark and George decided to walk home as Mark’s flat wasn’t that far from the town centre. He did try and insist on staying with us, but I told him we would be fine. Took a bit of persuading but he finally gave in, knowing he wasn’t going to win this round. Suddenly we had these muscly arms around us and when I looked up it was Jamie. I moved quickly to get him off me. “What’s up with you?” “Nothing! Didn’t realise you was still here!” “Yeah. I wouldn’t leave you guys on your own, now would I? Not much of a gentleman if I left you stood out here on your own, now would I?” “Why? You haven’t been with us all night. Why change now?” “Really Keira? Don’t be like that!” “It’s the truth. You wanted the night out then left us and your other mates all night. If we can cope without you all night, then we still can now!” “Well clearly not! You’re shivering. Where’s the jacket we bought today? Anyway, take mine.” “I’m fine. I didn’t think I needed it. Taxi will be here soon anyway.” “Keira stop being stubborn and take my jacket.” “Fine. Thanks.” “You’re welcome.” “You know you two are like a married couple,” Gemma butted in. “No, we’re not,” we both said in unison. “Yeah of course not!” We stood in silence for the rest of the time while we waited for the taxi and it seemed like forever. To be fair I am grateful for his jacket as I was wrong. The taxi was nowhere near to be being soon. It was twenty minutes late. Jamie got into the front, while Gemma and I got into the back. I just sat there staring out of the window until we got to my house. “How much do you want towards the fare Jamie?” “Nothing. I’ll pay for it.” “Okay. You sure? Here’s your jacket anyway.” “Yes, I’m sure and keep it. Give me it back tomorrow.” “Okay. Night.” “Night guys.” “Well that was an eventful night,” Gemma said walking up to the house. “He deserves it! Why invite people out to ignore them?” “Maybe he didn’t want to be around Mark. You know there’s bad chemistry around them both.” “Yeah maybe. That’s my fault but it was the only night we could see each other as he’s away all next week.” “Just explain that to him tomorrow then when you’re at football.” “Yeah I will do. Right I’m off to bed so I’ll see you in the morning.” “Night lovely.”
