Chapter 4: The Unexpected Task
Adina finished redoing the report, ensuring it met Ethan's specifications. As she submitted it, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. The tension between them had been palpable, and she was glad to have finally pleased him. However, her respite was short-lived, as Ethan appeared at her desk once more.
"Adina, I need you to attend a meeting with me today," he said, his eyes locked on hers. "It's a high-level discussion about the company's future direction. I'll need you to take notes and provide support during the meeting."
Adina's heart skipped a beat. She wasn't prepared for such a meeting, and the thought of participating in a high-level discussion made her anxious. She had always been comfortable working behind the scenes, handling tasks and projects with ease. But this was different. This was a meeting with senior executives and important stakeholders.
"I'm not sure I'm the right person for this," Adina hesitated, trying to convey her doubts without appearing incompetent.
Ethan's expression turned firm, his brow furrowing slightly. "You're my assistant, Adina. You're coming with me. Be ready in 30 minutes. We'll discuss the details on the way to the meeting."
Adina felt a wave of panic wash over her. What would she say in the meeting? Would she embarrass herself or Ethan? She began to mentally prepare, reviewing her notes and trying to anticipate the topics that would be discussed.
As she prepared for the meeting, Adina's mind racing with worst-case scenarios, she couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Would she be able to keep up with the conversation? Would she make a fool of herself?
The 30 minutes flew by, and Adina found herself standing outside the meeting room, her heart pounding in her chest. Ethan gave her a brief nod before opening the door and ushering her inside.
The meeting room was filled with senior executives and important stakeholders, all of whom seemed to be waiting for Ethan to begin. Adina took a seat at the back of the room, trying to blend into the background. But as Ethan began to speak, his eyes locked on hers, and she felt a jolt of electricity run through her body.
