The Queen Of The Sea

682 Words
“The sea never forgets its children.” ⸻ The words echoed across the shoreline. “My daughter…” “I have finally found you.” Lyra felt the world tilt beneath her feet. “No…” She shook her head, her voice trembling. “My mother died when I was a baby.” Queen Nereids Tideborn stepped gracefully from the shimmering ship onto the surface of the ocean itself. The water held her as if it were solid glass. She walked toward the shore. Every wave bowed before her. Every sea creature fell silent. “I never died, Lyra.” “I was forced to leave you.” ⸻ Kael stepped protectively in front of Lyra. “You’ve got a lot of explaining to do.” Nereids met the Alpha King’s gaze without fear. “I owe her the truth.” Lucien folded his arms, watching carefully. “So the Sea Queen finally leaves her throne.” “You’ve kept us waiting for twenty-one years.” Nereids’ emerald eyes flashed. “I was waiting for the right time.” “The prophecy has awakened.” “So have our enemies.” ⸻ Lyra stared at the woman before her. The same ocean-blue eyes. The same dark hair. The same crescent-shaped birthmark on her shoulder. She couldn’t deny it anymore. This woman… Looked exactly like her. “Why?” Lyra whispered. “Why did you leave me?” For the first time, Queen Nereids looked vulnerable. “I didn’t abandon you.” “I saved you.” ⸻ Twenty-one years earlier… The Siren Kingdom was under attack. Vampires stormed the northern reefs. Werewolves invaded the western coast. The ocean itself burned with crimson fire. In the middle of the chaos… A newborn baby cried. Queen Nereids held her daughter tightly. The royal oracle knelt before her. “Your Majesty…” “If the child remains here…” “She will die before sunrise.” Tears streamed down Nereids’ face. “There must be another way.” “There isn’t.” “The prophecy has already begun.” With a broken heart… She carried her daughter to the human world. She kissed the baby’s forehead one last time. “I will come back for you.” “I swear it.” Then she disappeared into the sea. ⸻ The vision faded. Lyra’s knees weakened. She had seen it with her own eyes. The memories. The pain. The sacrifice. “You…” “You really are my mother.” Nereids reached for her. But before their hands could touch— An arrow sliced through the air. Kael reacted instantly. He caught it inches from Nereids’ heart. The arrowhead was black. Covered in ancient runes. Lucien’s expression darkened. “They’ve found us again.” ⸻ From the cliffs overlooking the village, hundreds of hooded warriors appeared. At their center stood a tall figure wrapped in black robes. His face was hidden behind a silver mask. Only his glowing violet eyes could be seen. He laughed. “So…” “The family reunion begins.” Kael growled. “Who are you?” The stranger removed his hood. “I have many names.” “But history remembers me as…” “Mordecai.” Nereids’ face turned pale. “It can’t be…” “You died a thousand years ago.” Mordecai smiled. “I did.” “And yet…” “Here I stand.” He raised a black staff toward the sky. The clouds turned crimson. Lightning struck the sea. The ocean split apart. From the depths… Monstrous creatures climbed onto the shore. Half human. Half beast. Their eyes glowed with the same violet light as their master. Villagers screamed. Kael transformed without hesitation. Lucien drew his crimson blade. Nereids lifted her hands, summoning towering walls of water. Lyra stood frozen. Three kingdoms. Three rulers. One enemy. And for the first time… They would have to fight together. Mordecai smiled as chaos erupted. “Come then…” “Show me whether the prophecy was worth waiting a thousand years for.” The battle had begun.
