The Alpha’s Hunt

694 Words
A predator always knows when fate is near. ⸻ The howl echoed across the Blackwood Forest. Every wolf in the kingdom froze. Then they bowed their heads. Their Alpha had summoned them. King Kael Blackwood stood on the edge of the Moon Cliff, his black cloak whipping violently in the cold wind. His golden eyes glowed brighter than the full moon above him. Something was wrong. For the first time in his life… His wolf was restless. “Find her.” The command wasn’t his. It came from deep within his soul. Kael clenched his fists. “I don’t take orders.” Yet the strange pull refused to disappear. His Beta, Damon Ashclaw, approached cautiously. “My King.” Kael didn’t turn around. “Speak.” “Our scouts reported unusual magic near the human coast.” Kael’s jaw tightened. “The prophecy?” Damon hesitated. “They believe… the hybrid has awakened.” Silence. Then— Kael’s fist slammed into the stone beside him. The cliff cracked. “The prophecy should have died a thousand years ago.” “It seems it didn’t.” Kael looked toward the sea. “If the child truly exists…” His eyes hardened. “We find her first.” ⸻ Far away… Lyra couldn’t sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the giant black wolf staring at her. Not attacking. Watching. As though it knew her. She sat beside her bedroom window, listening to the waves crashing against the shore. Then— Knock. Knock. Knock. Her heart skipped. Who would visit at midnight? She slowly opened the door. No one. Only a small silver shell resting on the wooden floor. She picked it up. The moment her fingers touched it— A woman’s voice echoed inside her mind. “The sea remembers you…” Lyra gasped and dropped the shell. It shattered. Water burst from the broken pieces, swirling around the room before disappearing into thin air. “What is happening to me?” ⸻ Thousands of miles away… Inside the Crimson Palace. Prince Lucien Draven stood before the ancient Blood Mirror. Its surface rippled like liquid. An image appeared. A young woman. Dark hair. Ocean-blue eyes. The same woman from the prophecy. Lucien smiled. “So…” “After all these centuries…” “I’ve finally found you.” His advisor stepped forward. “Your Highness, shall we send soldiers?” Lucien shook his head. “No.” “An army would only frighten her.” He picked up his sword. “I’ll bring her to the palace myself.” “And if the wolves find her first?” Lucien’s crimson eyes darkened. “They won’t.” ⸻ That same night… A hooded figure stood outside Lyra’s cottage. Watching. Waiting. Hidden beneath the trees. The figure whispered an ancient spell. Black smoke slipped beneath the front door. Inside… Lyra suddenly couldn’t breathe. The room grew colder. Candles went out. A shadow formed on the wall. Two glowing red eyes opened in the darkness. “Found you…” A clawed hand reached toward her. Before it could touch her— BOOM! The front door exploded inward. A huge black wolf leapt into the cottage with a thunderous growl. Its golden eyes burned with fury. The shadow creature hissed and lunged. The wolf crashed into it, sending both through the wall in a shower of splintered wood. Lyra stumbled backward, frozen in shock. Outside, the battle shook the entire village. The black wolf tore through the darkness with savage strength. The shadow creature fought back with claws of living smoke. Then, just as suddenly as it had begun… The creature fled into the forest. The wolf stood still, breathing heavily. Slowly, it turned toward Lyra. Moonlight illuminated its amber eyes. There was no hatred in them. Only recognition. Only protection. For one brief moment, Lyra and the beast stared at each other in silence. Then the wolf disappeared into the night. Lyra whispered to herself, “Who… are you?” High above the clouds, unseen by anyone, a pair of ancient silver eyes opened. A voice echoed across the heavens. “The game has begun.”
