Cass turned back to the oven when the timer went off. She didn’t love cooking, but Bea had put together the sweet and sour meatballs for that night’s Supper Club, and all Cass had to do was bend and get them out. She slid them, in all their bubbling, glazey sauce, onto the stovetop, bumped the button to turn off the timer, and turned back to Bea. “I’m just wondering if she’ll really come.” “It’s Supper Club,” Bea said, finally looking up from the magazine she’d been leafing through since Cass had arrived twenty minutes ago.
