Two months earlier
“We’ve heard from the Emerald Kingdom,” mother tells me, smiling and upbeat. “The Queen Luna and her son have confirmed that Princess Janette is having twin pups, a boy pup and a girl pup. Isn’t that wonderful news, my darling!”
“What do I care?” I grumble unhappily. “I can’t be anything more than the pups sperm donor in this condition. I won’t be able to do any of the things a father should do.”
“You’ll be doing the most important thing of all for those pups, sweetheart,” mother reminds me, sounding like a broken record. She brings this up every time she visits me. “You’re going to claim them! The boy pup could very well end up becoming Lycan king of Romania!”
