24 ON THE ROAD AGAINA fortnight later, at two o’clock in the afternoon Spanish time, Ayr and Ross started their going-away party and Lek, Craig and Soom, separated from them by eleven thousand kilometres joined in by video link. The three in Spain sat around the end of a table with the Smartphone in front of them and Ross and Ayr did the same in Thailand. It was a good substitute. They maintained the link until Ayr’s battery gave up, because Ross wanted to keep his phone active.
Their intention was to drive down to Bangkok the following morning, check into a hotel, sell the car and fly out to Australia soon thereafter or certainly within a few days.
When the link broke, Craig went down to the square to start writing, leaving the girls looking at the dead phone.
