They stayed there long enough to do the final, most important part. Together, Emma Jane and the constable burned the body of the wendigo. The blaze roared high into the night sky from the clearing, and she watched the comforting warmth of the fire licking at the wood the constable had found. He built a good fire.
It took hours, but finally, the body was ash and the danger removed from this particular monster. She’d performed the gruesome task of cutting what was left of the heart out of the body, to ensure she could watch it had burn away completely.
Samuel had taught her that the best practice was to burn the entire thing, to make sure no trace could ever be found and used for ill purposes.
