Chapter Three
Seph was horrified by the changes around her.
She hurried as fast as her weakened state would allow until she reached the doors of the palace. Almost fainting on the stairs, she accepted the help of a passing footman.
The man supported her up and his joyous shouts filled the air. “The Princess has returned! The Princess has returned!”
Within seconds, a swarm of activity descended. She almost floated as a gilded litter appeared. Someone wrapped her in a soft blanket, cocooning her with warmth and placing her delicately on top of the soft cushions.
Grateful, she sighed, smiling at the familiar faces surrounding her. Her beloved servants looked upon her with elation and worry, their voices mixing together as conversation, laughter, and tears filled the air.
