Chapter 1

Bella stood in front of her father’s grave. Tears streamed down her eyes. She looked at her father’s grave, which was just next to her mother’s.

“Dad, how are you? I know you aren’t lonely because you have mum to keep you company. I have been so lonely dad. Life has been so unbearable since you left, dad I have great news for you, I have finally graduated college and now I can be able to get a job. You remember that company you were investigating before you were brutally murdered, I intend on getting a job there, I promise I won’t let your death be in vain, I will do everything to bring down that company. They must pay for the life they took from me, for every tears I have shed, for every pain and heartache I have endured they have to pay, life have been so bitter since you left me, I have lived life looking forward to when I can get my revenge and I wouldn’t be able to live life normally knowing that the people who took you away from me are living just fine, they have to pay for everything they have done” Bella stood there crying bitterly as memories of four years ago flooded her mind.

It was a very bright and lively Sunday morning. Bella and her dad were having breakfast together and Bella was chatting about school and everything going on in her life, it has become a normal thing for her to tell her dad everything going on in her life. She lost her mum 18years ago after her birth, her dad would always tell her stories about how wonderful her mother was and how she looked so much like her. Her father became both a mother and father to her, he was all she had in the world, he was the only person who she could tell her deepest secrets.

“Dad, I think I have a crush” Bella said as she bit into her toast looking at her dad and waiting for his reaction.

“Tell me more about this nut cracker, that has swept my daughter off her feet” mr Swariss asked, just as Bella was about to speak his phone rang, Bella watched as her father excused himself and moved to the sitting room to take the call, Bella who was curious because her father never hid to take calls sneaked out to eavesdrop on the call.

“I had enough evidence to pull down Mars Nexus Enterprises” her dad said to the man on the phone

“What do you mean it’s not a good idea to continue with the investigation, I have spent 3years investigating this and you think I would just drop this case? Never, even if it costs my life I must bring justice” Bella heard the man on the phone keep persuading her father to give up on the investigation but her father didn’t give in.

“I think we have nothing else to talk about, if they have paid you to shut up, too bad because I won’t shut up about this, I can’t believe you would betray me like this because of a few bucks” Bella quickly ran back to the dining table, her body trembling as she tried to act normal, her dad walked in with a big smile on his face trying to cover up his nervousness he felt.

“Dad, what was the call about, you don’t look ok, you have turned very pale.”

“My darling it’s nothing for you to worry about, everything is alright, I need you to pack up your bags we will be going to a friends place”

“Dad what do you mean pack, if something is wrong you know you can always tell me, remember we are a team”

“It’s nothing I can’t handle I want you to know that, I just want you to keep being a good girl” her dad said smiling.Bella looked at her dad sensing something was not right, they both finished breakfast in total silence, Bella trying to hide her nerves and her dad finding it hard to swallow his food.

The loud bang on the door forced Bella to open her eyes, she had dozed of while packing her bags for the journey the next morning,her dad rushed into her room almost immediately

“Go into your wardrobe and lock yourself in there, no matter what you hear do not come out”

“Dad what’s going on? Who is at the door?”she asked her dad anxiously

“Promise me you won’t come out no matter what, promise me Bella” her dad said as he shook her

“I promise dad” she said as tears filled her eyes

“Don’t cry my darling everything will be alright” her dad tried to console her.

Bella rushed into her wardrobe and locked it, her dad quickly rushed outside the door and locked the door to her room, she heard her father open the door

“What do you want from me”she heard her dad say

“Hand over all evidence you have and we might let you go” said an unfamiliar voice

“What evidence, who are you, I have no idea what you are talking about” Bella’s dad said

“I see he is trying to prove stubborn, those Mars Nexus Enterprise ring a bell to you?” Asked another voice

“I heard he has a daughter” said the first voice

“Don’t you harm my daughter, she has nothing to do with this”

“Oh now it rings a bell, I thought you had amnesia, old man” said the first voice

“Go and look around to make sure no one else is in this house” said the second voice.

After a while Bella heard the knob of her door turn, the person kept trying to open it then suddenly she heard her dad’s voice

“That’s my daughters room, she must have locked her room before leaving the house earlier”

“Give us all the evidence you have gathered” said the second voice

“I really don’t have any evidence, please let me go don’t harm me”

“Do you think we are here to joke around?, if you don’t hand it over, we will hunt your daughter down and kill her first before we kill your maybe then you will be willing to hand over the evidence”

“No please don’t harm my daughter she’s all I have got, everything you want is in the back of that drawer over there”

“Go check it out” said the second voice

Bella listened quietly not even daring to breathe too loud, cold sweat trickled down her face.

“Found it” said the first voice

“Burn it” said the second voice

“You have what you want now, so please let me go”Bella heard her dad plead

“Who else knows about this” asked the second voice

“No one else, I work alone”

“I’m really sorry because we can’t let you leave, you know way too much, I feel sorry for your daughter because she’s about to become fatherless” with that said two loud gunshots filled the air, Bella had to press her hand tightly on her mouth to hold back the scream about to escape her mouth.
