Zandaya's POV
"Please, leave," I pleaded, my words escaping my lips with a hint of desperation. The mere presence of this man sent shivers down my spine, reminding me of the immense responsibility I carried on my shoulders. The fate of the entire clan rested in my hands, their lives precariously balanced on the edge of my palm. Any misstep, any lapse in judgment, and everything would crumble to ruins. The weight of this burden was suffocating, and I couldn't afford to entertain distractions.
"Is that truly what you desire, little one?" he inquired, his voice dripping with a seductive allure. The world beckoned beyond these confining walls, its beauty, and wonders calling out to me. But I knew better than to succumb to the temptation, no matter how enticing it may seem. The consequences would be dire, and I had to remain steadfast.
"I want you to leave and never return," I declared, my gaze averted, unable to meet his eyes. It dawned on me that placing my trust in a stranger, someone whose intentions remained shrouded in mystery would be a grave mistake. It was safer to remain perched upon this solitary wall, embracing my solitude.
"If that is your wish, then so be it. But remember, you will be the one to summon me back," Dave responded cryptically before vanishing into thin air.
I found myself sitting on the edge of the bed, my hands instinctively rising to cover my face. The weight of my heart seemed to intensify as it raced within my chest. How could I have allowed myself to potentially fall in love with a stranger in just one month? Today marked the first time he had appeared before me, and for a fleeting moment, I almost believed he was a ghostly apparition rather than a flesh-and-blood human being. Thankfully, I had managed to gather the strength to chase him away from my presence. Exhausted from the emotional turmoil, I laid back on the bed, closing my eyes as I succumbed to a deep and much-needed slumber.
~~~~~~
I jolted upright, my heart pounding, as the piercing sound of screams echoed through the mansion. The urgency in those cries sent a shiver down my spine. Just as I was about to swing my legs over the edge of the bed, Rossana, her face streaked with tears, burst into my room.
"Zendaya, the mansion is engulfed in flames," she choked out, her voice trembling with fear. Without a moment's hesitation, I sprang to my feet, my mind racing.
"We must ensure everyone's safety," I declared, my voice filled with determination.
"It's too late," Rossana sobbed, her words punctuated by her heavy breaths. "I believe demons are responsible for this inferno. We cannot extinguish it. Annabelle insists that we leave immediately, as she suspects the demons may be on their way to eliminate you." Rossana's voice quivered as she struggled to speak through her tears. "We must depart without delay."
"But what about the others? And Annabelle? We cannot let them perish," I pleaded, my eyes welling up with tears.
"She insists that we flee, assuring us that she will handle matters here," Rossana explained, her grip on my hand tightening. And in an instant, we vanished from the mansion, leaving behind the chaos and uncertainty that now consumed it.
Rossana and I appeared in the heart of the forest, surrounded by an eerie darkness that seemed to seep into our bones. The biting cold air sent shivers down our spines, intensifying the sense of foreboding that hung in the atmosphere.
"Rossana," I begged, my voice trembling with a mix of fear and confusion, "how did this fire come to be? And why didn't you think to wake me or alert me in any way?" Tears welled up in my eyes, reflecting the flickering flames that danced before us. Strangely, I hadn't heard a single scream or any indication of danger, as if I had been ensnared in dangerous magic.
"Zandaya," Rossana's voice quivered with sorrow, her tears mingling with the ash that clung to her cheeks, "I called out to you countless times as soon as the fire erupted, but you remained in an unyielding slumber. Now, everything lies in ruins, reduced to mere ashes." Her sobs echoed through the desolate forest, a mournful lament for the lives lost.
I ran my fingers through my disheveled hair, a gesture of frustration and self-doubt. "I cannot fathom why I fell into such a profound sleep. It feels as though someone has cast a malevolent spell upon me... I could have prevented this hell from consuming everything."
Rossana's voice, filled with empathy, cut through the heavy silence. "Zandaya, you mustn't blame yourself. The demons possess an unfathomable power, capable of weaving thorny spells to manipulate even the strongest of wills. They must have entrapped you in a deep slumber, ensuring that you would be unable to prevent the flames and save our people. The approaching full moon only intensifies their desire for your sacrifice. We must exercise most caution in the face of this impending danger.
"Where do we go now? Where will we hide?" I asked, my voice trembling with fear.
Rossana, her face etched with worry, replied, "Summon that stranger we met earlier. We can seek refuge in his house until the full moon wanes."
I furrowed my brow, concern evident in my eyes. "But didn't you mention that he was dangerous?"
Wiping away the tears that streamed down my cheeks, I continued, "What should we do then? Annabelle emphasized the importance of our survival, lest her sacrifice be in vain."
Rossana's eyes welled up with tears once again as she spoke, her voice choked with emotion. "We must return to the mansion and take shelter there. By doing so, we can deceive the demons, making them believe that we have evacuated due to the fire."
Her words resonated with me, and I nodded in agreement. "You're right," I said, my voice filled with determination.
Dave's POV
A mischievous smirk played on my lips as I sat comfortably on the plush chair in the dimly lit room. The suspense of the impending full moon filled the air, and I couldn't help but make merry in the fact that everything was unfolding exactly as I had meticulously planned. That foolish girl had made a grave error by resisting my irresistible charm. Throughout my existence, no woman had ever dared to reject me, and now she would pay the price for her audacity. Her whole clan would burn to ashes.
My mind was consumed with thoughts of vengeance as I pondered the fate that awaited her. Oh, how I took satisfaction in the idea of her suffering a slow and agonizing death, one that would make her yearn for the sweet release of death. It was only fitting, for she had brought this upon herself. But beyond my rivalry, there was a greater purpose at stake.
The lives of my father and the entire clan hung in the balance, their very existence teetering on the edge of oblivion. Our life spans were rapidly approaching their limit, and to halt the impending doom, a sacrifice had to be made. It was a cruel twist of fate that she, the very queen of serpents, possessed the power that could potentially save us all.
Just as my thoughts consumed me, a familiar voice broke through the silence of the room. "Dave," it called out, causing me to raise my head and direct my gaze toward the entrance. Standing there was Sam, my childhood friend, with his long flowing blonde hair and piercing blue eyes.
"Did you do what I asked of you?" I inquired, watching as he made his way toward me and took a seat on the couch across from me.
"I set the mansion ablaze, just like you instructed. Annabelle made sure that Zandaya and Rossana were safely out of harm's way. They're currently in the forest, and I'm unsure of where they'll go from there," Sam reported.
"Excellent. Everything is progressing as planned. I'll ensure that Annabelle falls head over heels for me before the full moon arrives," I stated, deep in thought.
"I don't think this is the right thing to do. Those girls are innocent. We're ruining their lives by taking them out," Sam voiced his concerns.
My expression darkened. "Do you want to die?" I asked brazenly.
"Of course not. But I also don't think it's right to kill someone to save our own lives," Sam replied.
"I'm not doing this for enjoyment, Sam. This is a matter of survival. If we don't act, we all die. Surely you understand that" I reasoned, hoping to convince him to see the gravity of our situation.
"I understand all that, but I can't help but feel a sense of unease about this situation. Deep down, I had a premonition that our actions would eventually lead to our distractions," I confessed, my voice tinged with apprehension.
"Relax, my friend," I reassured, trying to alleviate his concerns. "We have to bring forth the queen of serpents, and our fathers will surely know how to handle any potential consequences. If anything were to happen, those responsible will face the consequences."
"Dave, you are my closest companion, but I must be honest with you," Sam interjected, his tone carrying a hint of disagreement. "I can't help but perceive a certain darkness within you. It seems as though your motivations are solely focused on self-preservation."
"Indeed," I replied, a sly smirk forming on my face. "In this life, one must prioritize their survival. I have no desire to meet an untimely demise, nor do I wish to shoulder the blame for the deaths of those unfortunate girls. Should they seek retribution, someone else will bear the burden of their wrath."
With these words, I sought to convey my pragmatic approach to the situation, while also acknowledging the potential consequences that lay ahead.
