Fighting for his attention

CHAPTER 2
The next morning, she woke up and found herself in the guest room, she wondered how she got there, she decided to go and see her husband, when she got there, her mother in law embarrassed her as she always does.
“If you really loved my son, you will stay by his bed all night, you will not leave him, but you, you are a hypocrite.”
She looked towards his bed side, and saw that he was sleeping.
“Do you even know what he did.”
His mother did not care at all, all she wanted was for her son, to get well soon.
“Do you think you deserve any respect, you are as worthless as your mother, your mother betrayed me, and i warned him, that you can not have the morals you did not recieve, but he did not listen.”
June had taken enough insults already, “You can insult me all you want, but don't you dare insult my mum.”. Her mother in law got up.
“Else what?!, will you push me like you pushed my son?, you murderer, I should send you to jail.”
Luke got worried when he learnt from his personal assistant how June was being treated, even if they were not together anymore, he would still protect her with his might. He drove to the hospital as fast as he could.
“ Is this why you accepted her as your daughter in law, to punish her, simply because you despised her mother's you have decided to treat her worse than a servant.”
Harvey's mother turned her attention to Luke.
“You, of course you will defend her, why wouldn't you, my son is the only thing stopping you from making her yours, so the two of you, hatched a plan to take him away from this world, but I will not allow it, she is my daughter in law, and I will treat her however I want, you have no place here.”
Luke smiled.
“Really, it seems you have no idea, this is my hospital, so I have every right to be here, I could even stop your sons treatment and watch him die.”
Harvey's mother's eyes widened, did he really mean it?, will he really watch her son die.
“Please no, you are right, we are only patients here, please forgive me.”
Luke nodded his head.
“Much better.”. Luke stared at June, his eyes glittering with love and affection, but he walked away, he warned Harvey's mother to not embarrass her again, else she would have to take her son to another hospital. But it was too late the news spread far and wide, that Luke and June were responsible for Harvey's accident.
“I am thankful, you let me stay here, despite my actions, but I have to go back to my husband now, if not, people will keep dragging your name.”
Luke only nodded.
“You won't talk to me, fine, I'm leaving.”.
She turned back, he still sat comfortably, she turned around and left.
Luke remembered his first wife, if she were here, he would not be alone, this overwhelming feeling of loneliness was making him sick, he decided to go to a bar.
“It's being a long time sir, I still remember when you said you would never drink again.”
Luke did not say a word, he only drank, drank to his hearts content, his mother passed away as soon as he was born, and now his father was gone, his only hope of a family, was also gone.
He sat on the floor with a bottle in his hand.
He felt his world crumble around him.
“What's the point?, why did I work so hard, when I would be welcomed with loneliness, no one is here with me, and yet the world bows before me when I pass by.”
A young lady stood behind him, she knelt beside him and took away the bottle in his hand.
“I will be your best friend.”
He turned and saw someone but he did not know who she was, all she wanted was to get him home, because, his actions were already causing a scene.
“Come on, let's go.”
She took him to a hotel, and she left very early in the morning, he woke up confused.
“How did I get here.”
The staffs told him how he got there, and he was determined to find the girl who helped him.
June stayed in her masters bedroom, depressed, and decided to commit suicide, on her way, she met a girl crying.
“What's wrong?.” She asked her.
“My mum jumped into this river, and died, and I have no idea what I should do.”
“Will you live with me?.”
The young child nodded.
June decided to live for her, and adopt her. For the first time Harvey supported her decision.
“Sure, you can adopt her, the house is too quiet anyway.”
June smiled at looked at her.
“What is your name?.”
“Rose.” The girl responded.
They all smiled, but Harvey's mother was not happy, she did not want this girl, to find her way into her son's heart. She would never forgive June or her mother.
“What's wrong mum?, are you not happy, say hi to your grand child.” She hugged Rose half heartedly.
Luke saw all these when he got to work, and decided it was time for him to move on, to find another wife, and forget about June.
He needed to find the girl that saved him.
During his lunch break, he saw his workers busy on there phones, and he wondered what they watching, he took a peek, and saw everything that happened last night, and he saw the girl who helped him.
He recognized her, she was his first wife, whom he thought was dead, he needed to confirm his thoughts. The workers watched him run, his shirt flying with the wind.
Then it dawned on him, he did not know where she lived, he fell on his feeling dejected once again.
