Chapter Two
Emilia pov
I gathered my stuff with the speed of light and dashed out of the office. It was a very crazy experience to be in the same room with Lucas—-the Lucas.
I didn't even know what to say as I walked down to the bus stop in fear. Looking behind me to see if I was being followed. I clutched my bag to my chest as I wanted everything to just be a dream.
What was my boss thinking, working with illegal accounts? As I waited in the cold lonely bus stop with no sign of the bus coming anytime soon.
A car stopped in front of me, my heart paced, I tried to move but I was deeply rooted to my spot. The window rolled down slowly and the person whose face I saw was the one I was trying to run from——Lucas.
“Get in!” I heard his cold voice and my feet moved by itself without any form of hesitation whatsoever.
I got into the car and kept my distance, trying not to anger the god of the streets. The car zoomed off, leaving me wondering if I was being kidnapped. I began to pray silently in my mind.
Few minutes later, the car pulled over at my apartment. I was confused because I had not even given them an address.
I looked at Lucas confused but I swallowed my confusion “Thank you for the lift!” I said in a soft voice as I turned to get down from the car.
“Get your things ready, tomorrow you are moving in with me!” I heard him say, his eyes glued to his phone.
“But!”
“No excuse! My men would be here tomorrow to help you pack. Just your essential needs——nothing else.” he commanded and I just nodded in response.
I got down from the car, watching as the car zoomed off the street breaking almost every traffic rule. I took out my keys from my bag as I hurriedly opened the door to my apartment.
I closed the door behind me, breathing heavily, my heart still pounding from the rush of everything. I looked at my phone and it was already Saturday morning. I had been in the office all day without a break and now I can feel the effect.
I dragged myself to bed, immediately my head hit the pillow, I passed out due to exhaustion.
The next day
I heard a knock on my door, it was so loud that I couldn’t ignore it. I got up from my bed grumpy and tired to go check who was banging on my door.
I opened the door to see two men dressed in black suits and dark sunglasses in front of me.
“Good day….we were sent by sir Lucas to help with the move!” One of the men said and my eyes widened in horror——I had forgotten about the move.
I looked at the time and it was 12pm. How did I sleep that long? I opened the door wide, inviting them in.
“Please come in! Let me get ready!” I said and dashed out to get ready.
After quickly getting ready, I returned to find the two men already starting to box up my essentials. I felt a pang of anxiety watching my belongings disappear into suitcases and boxes. This was happening so fast.
As the men finished packing, I heard footsteps in the hallway. I turned, and my eyes met with a woman I hadn’t seen before. Tall, with sleek hair and perfectly manicured nails, she looked like she stepped straight out of a fashion magazine. Her gaze was sharp, piercing through me as if I were nothing more than an obstacle.
“Oh, it’s you,” the woman sneered, her tone dripping with disdain. “I figured Lucas had standards. Guess I was wrong.”
My cheeks burned. I had no idea who this woman was, but it was clear she didn’t see me as a friend.
“I’m sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met…” I started, trying to keep my voice steady.
The woman folded her arms, a smirk forming on her red lips. “I’m Isabel,” she said, her voice laced with venom. “Lucas and I go way back. I know him better than anyone.”
I felt a twinge of discomfort. Isabel’s words carried a sense of ownership, like she had staked a claim on Lucas. But why was she here now, and why did she seem so threatened by me
“Right…” I managed, my voice quiet.
Isabel’s eyes narrowed as she looked me over. “Don’t get too comfortable, sweetheart,” she said with a smirk. “Lucas doesn’t keep his toys for long.”
With that, Isabel turned on her heel, her high heels clicking as she strutted out of the apartment. I stood there, feeling rattled by the encounter. She was in way over her head, and Lucas was far more complex—and possibly dangerous—than I ever imagined.
As the men finished up, I followed them to the car, where I noticed Lucas waiting in the back seat. His face was unreadable as he looked up from his phone, briefly glancing at me.
“Is something wrong?” he asked, his voice cold and distant.
I hesitated, but I shook my head. “Nothing at all,” I replied, hiding the doubt that gnawed at my subconscious. I climbed into the car, bracing myself for whatever awaited me in Lucas’s world.
