Megara
Pushing the cardboard box all the way on the kitchen table with my hip, I raise my hands, “That’s it! That’s the last one.”
Adjusting the thermostat, Thomas smiles, “Good, finally.”
Pulling out a chair, I sit wide and retie my hair, “I think that’s enough of a workout for the week.”
He chuckles and hands me a glass of ice water. “It wasn’t so bad, not even an apartment worth of stuff.”
No more water left, I fan my face. “I have too many books.”
Even though I’m a sweaty mess, he cups my face that way he does and kisses me. “We have too many books.”
I look around our apartment. Our apartment. Just a year ago did he and I really start talking, under the charade of artsy Instagrams. And only three months ago had Thomas revealed himself as the man I love.
As he sits next to me, I take his hand and squeeze it. “Now, all we need to do is order pizza.”
He chuckles and squeezes my hand back, “Really, that’s all we need to do?”
Thomas
The apartment perfectly chilled, both of us freshly showered, the bed is made and very, very comfortable. Meg lays across my chest and I slowly drag my fingers through her hair. This is exactly how I’d dreamed it would be.
Eyes closed, I inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Finally starting to relax, suddenly something jumps on the bed. I peek down to see Thackery.
Then, all of a sudden, Meg laughs while reaching out to him. “I should have known.”
“Hm?”
She lifts, hand on my chest, and looks at me with a smile. “That it was you.”
I smirk and brush loose hair off her face, “Oh yeah, how come?”
She nods to the cat, “Thackery Banks, Thackery Binx? It’s punny.”
She kisses me for the thousandth time that day and I know it’ll never get old. Maybe we’re both a little naïve, but our fairytale has come true.
