Chapter Eighteen and Nineteen

898 Words
So??? How did your final grades turn out? Still a four-point-oh? I still have over a three-point-five, so I’m happy. Math is always going to be a little bit hard for me, I think. Four-Point-Oh! Ahh!! I’m so excited. Straight A’s, can you believe it? I knew I could do it. Though I won’t lie, this week between final exams and grades was killer stressful. And yay! Good for you! I knew you could do it, you’re so intelligent. Yes! Amazing! Well done! We should totally celebrate. I agree that this last week has been very stressful. But! It’s over and now we can relax. We should celebrate! You’re right. And… I’m assuming that important project is done? So… do you actually want to meet soon? Yes, I think I did the best that I could. I’m attending a party this weekend, would you want to go? Really? Me too! A good friend’s birthday. Is your good friend’s name Thomas? Yes! Wow, crazy small world. Meet you there? Perfect. CHAPTER NINETEEN Megara Thumb rubbing the back of my mother’s locket, I stare out the car window unseeing. Frankie is driving and talking to Ralph, (who’s in the passenger seat). We’re all off to Thomas Bank’s twenty-fifth birthday party and I have to say, I’m feeling rather conflicted. At first, there was the hope of @GoghingGoghingGone and this wonderfully cute and silly and romantic relationship we could have. Then my friendship with Thomas grew and at the oddest of times, I wondered if there could be more. Now I’m going to be at a party they’re both attending and I can’t tell who it is I’m dreaming of. I had texted Thomas when we left, so I wasn’t surprised he was the one to answer the door. Looking better than a movie star, I now relate to him on a fundamental level, and we share a genuine bond. When he looks at me, I get lost in his eyes, and his smile makes my heart happy. My “Happy Birthday!” gets muffled as he brings me into a hug, but I’m just as pleased to be in his arms. But then Frankie drags me away, into the kitchen to get some drinks. After looking around, she whispers, “So? Has he messaged you? Is he here?” I didn’t need to look at my phone, “He said he was going to be a little late.” She gives me a look of ‘what are you going to do’ and the answer is, “I don’t know.” Instead, I drag her into the party and let myself get distracted. My phone on vibrate and in my pocket, I’ll feel if he sends me a new message. It’s going to be okay… whatever happens, it’s going to be okay. Thomas Meg looks absolutely stunning. Half her chestnut hair picked up into a bun, the length flowing down her back in ringlets. She’d done just a little more makeup than I’d ever seen her and it only enhances her natural beauty that much more. Her long-sleeved, v-neck shirt is a soft lavender color, over light-wash skinny jeans, making her look soft and ethereal. I keep catching her eye from across the room and all I want to do is hold her hand. If everything goes well in about fifteen minutes, then I’ll be able to ask her to be my girlfriend, (the best birthday gift ever). But, I have to play it just right… I have to be patient. Turning my back to her, I type what will be my last message to @TeaDropsOnRoses. I’m here. Meet me in the master bedroom? It’ll be a quiet place to meet. Almost instantly she pulls her phone out of her pocket. The expression on her face changes, she actually looks nervous. She shows the text to Frankie, who hopefully says something supportive. Meg nods and then asks Patrick a question. He points down the hall and she leaves. This is it, holy f**k. Megara Down the hall and to the left is the master bedroom. I opened the door to find no one there, so I turned the overhead light on and moved into the room. It’s exactly how I imagined, I recognized so many things from his pictures. There’s a mew from the bed that draws my attention, I see a fluffy black cat lounging. “Shh, Thackery, it’s okay.” My heart skips a beat. Thomas Megara turns around the moment I speak, a hand held to her mouth. I can see her eyes start to glisten and I close the door behind me. Her smile is contagious and we meet in the middle. I use my thumb to wipe away the tear that rolled down her cheek. She giggles a little and whispers, “I really wanted it to be you.” My one hand leaves her face and curls around her neck, the other lifts to her waist to steady us. “I hoped… all our little ‘nothing’ conversations have meant a tremendous something to me.” And then I kiss her softly. Her lips are velvet against mine and I taste the cherry Coke on her tongue. As her hands reach to my shirt and she pulls, my fingers curl in her hair. The way we fit together… we were simply meant to be.
