I hate Surprises.....

**** Evony's Pov **** After I used tough love on Addanon, I genuinely wanted to console him. I know it wasn't easy living with thoughts of, Did I kill him? How thick is he really though? I told him he was a healer. Why was that his first thought? He lived with that conclusion for years. Practically refused to see logic, actual signs, had he just got out of his own head for a few minutes he wouldn't have had to suffer that way. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Mortals........ they grew up as mortals. Of course. The silly boy that he was, focussed on his image and did what a mortal would do, test his mortality. Hope that if he pretended long enough the issue would just go away. He said it himself. He wanted to be numb. Such a human notion. Our power is only as strong as our minds and is limited by our imagination. Why would he want to be rid of the control panel which are our feelings? Trying to reason with him no longer seemed like an option. He needed to know that it was all imagined by himself. He trapped himself in that cycle, all because he was afraid of being seen as weak. I was worried if this would stop him from being able to access his full potential. The rest of the ride was quiet. The air was a little charged, but not uncomfortable. At some point, I must have nodded off because Cannon was telling me we had arrived, caressing my face with light feather touches, that was just as sensual as if he were to skim them over my n*****s, which were straining against my bra. They all smell so good. Plus, I am eighteen and have never even kissed a boy. I blame my unused hormones. Hoping to dash away those distracting thoughts, maybe store them away for later use, I bowed my head after sitting up using my hair to hide behind, while rubbing the sleep from my eyes. It was time to get to work. I knew Cannon was on the phone with his employee, aware of the whispers between Dev and ........... Addy, yes Addy. I like that. They were wondering how they could help. They truly have no idea the essence that dwells within them. It is my fault they have no knowledge and, apart from Cannon, it seemed like they didn't care enough to go searching for information. I looked around, noticing we were parked behind some large bushes a few meters away from the main entry gates, on a gravel road. Looking higher up the winding driveway, I saw this huge white building, standing behind a neatly cut lawn. It looked like a converted warehouse. The energy though, I was not expecting to feel core power. "Enough!" I shushed them. I needed to concentrate. Closing my eyes, bowing my head again, keeping my breathing steady, I lowered my shields, both mental and protective. The millisecond they were down, a cacophony of deafening voices in the vicinity came at me. Fortunately, Dev noticed my discomfort and came to me, kneeling in front of me and pressing his forehead into my hair, arms around me, keeping me grounded. Soon drawing from his calm disposition, I began deciphering through the voices. One particular patient, well I hope it is, had seven personalities and they were having a somewhat odd version of a board meeting. Well, it was an image of the thought, at least. Some people really do belong here, whereas others have deep-seeded issues that are not being addressed. I think these people were being experimented on. Ahhhh there he is! The doctor. Thinking about dinner and humming show tunes. Which to me was more scary, than boardroom guy. Sitting in his chair playing, is that solitude? Geez, this guy is pathetic. Okay, here we go. Let's take a tour, shall we? At least he is organized, each room has a topic. Family. Mistresses, ewww.... , Finances and Investments. Work. Special Patient. Hmmmm, patient and work ought to be the same thing. Time to open up, huh? Why would a human have protection for a single thought category? The door is actually locked. Well, I just answered my own question, the traitor is not a mortal. Good thing I have the boys with me. Snatch a little from Addy, which was harder than expected, we will have to have a chat about that. These ought to make it easy to pick, looking at the two pin-like twigs in my hands. Nothing I couldn't handle, picking locks was a fun skill, one of the lost Fatum taught me. He said that was how he survived so long without being able to go home. There, jiggle that doorknob, in we go. "Sh!ttttttttttt!" I screamed, slamming back into my own mind. "Hey, hey, hey it's okay, it's alright" Devion tried soothing me. I realized after a few beats later it was because I was crying. "What was it, Evony? You looked like you were in some sort of trance when we moved your hair aside," Cannon inquired. "When I tried asking you why you tugged on me or well my power, you didn't answer either..." Addanon added. "Cannon your plan won't work........." I began, only to be interrupted by him trying to convince me it would. "Listen to me damm!t," effectively shutting them all up, "That doctor S. Bailey, their real name is Doah. They are Fatum and they know who Brennon is." "How?" whispered Addy. "Why did you ask me about another elemental being able to find me earlier?" directing my question to Cannon. "The other fire elemental tagged him, didn't he?" asked Cannon. "Yes, but there's more. Doah is not my subject. His core is rotted. He is not obligated or naturally inclined to just surrender Bren to me. They have been drugging Brennon to keep him quiet. In hopes that I would come for him. To kill me," I stated. "Wait, please hold on. Why would they want you dead? We are missing pieces of the puzzle here. Before you say anything," raising his hand in a gesture to hold on at Cannon, Addanon proceeded, "I know we don't have time for a history lesson, but I believe we need an outline." "Fine. Around five generations ago, in mortal time, our realm was ruled by a queen. She had a brother. The brother betrayed her. Killed her and took over. My guardian, Fero, took as many female babes as he could and escaped with us through the barrier. A male has never been in charge of the Fatum. The usurper's magic corrupted the boundary magic, throwing Fero and the females he saved into different times, through different gates, scattered into the mortal realm. Here. Fero is under the impression that all the gates were sealed thereafter. As a babe, he found me. When I was younger, I was an eavesdropper, not very proud of it, but they wouldn't tell me why we were so cautious. So, in that way, I found out that the Fatum who gave their loyalty to the false King, their cores rot. That's why they can't identify me. I only draw in life and light. They are also corrupted, with darkness, or as Fero called it, chaos." I explained in a way I hoped was enough as well, not taking up too much time. "So you see why they are ordered to kill me. They are doing it for their King, but are unable to find me. The fire elemental, though, sensed that Bren was another host. That's why he is now trapped here." "Okay thank you. We will circle back on this at the appropriate time, because that was a f0ck tone of crazy out your mouth, that I do not know how to begin to process. Now, how do we really get him 'outta here without raising alarms, turning him and us into fugitives, and the most important is the fire elemental here? 'Cause I don't think any of us understand our powers well enough to take on someone who has had numerous lifetimes perfecting their skills. Not trying to sound pessimistic or anything, just sounding out the facts," Addy said. "No, he isn't here. Your imagination is the key to your powers," I instructed. "Once you're in my presence for now, you can use them. We have to go in there, shielded. My plan is to raise alarms. I found where he was holding Bren, while digging through his thoughts. They were torturing him, to find out if he had already met me. I am going to make them all pay!" I ended venomously. ........................................................................................................................................................................................... *** Third party Pov *** Evony then climbed out of the car, with her elementals behind her. Using her telekinesis, she made a clear path to Bren, opening all the gates and doors. This caused an alarm to blare off and a much needed distraction. Devion, taking the lead, projected a force field around them, making it reflective, rendering them invisible. The other patients were all too happy to get out of their rooms for the evening. The ones, most hallucinogenic, started fighting off the orderlies, creating a mass uproar amongst the others. It was like someone switched on a light in a dark, unused room and the vermin that made a home there started to scatter. Anyone that came close to them literally bounced off the shield, as they made their way to Bren. Above all, the screaming and general madness, the alarm continued to blare relentlessly. Addanon found himself wishing she had chosen a quieter path. The thought of attracting the attention of the man who was trained to protect a queen, turned rouge, was not a good idea to him at all. Cannon seemed unbothered on the outside, but inside him, his greatest fear was that Evony was using a lot of energy to keep the place open like that. Could she endure that much? Was she trained for something like this? From the little historical knowledge he got, the Elementals were supposed to do the fighting for her. Devion only cared about keeping any threats out. Once at the back of the building, they took the flights of stairs downwards. Keeping quiet, unsure if the dome they were in was sound proof, Addy, nudged at Cannon, silently asking where they were going? Cannon, just as clueless as him, only shrugged. Switching from the pristine white tiled walls, florescent lights and red-painted concrete stairs, to the floor they entered was a drastic change. Poorly lit and smelled awful, rough walls and pipes covered the cement ceiling. However, a heat so profound penetrated their bubble of protection, nearly stifling them. Cannon used his core to add a thin layer of ice on the shield, giving them a much needed cooling system. However, he had to continuously concentrate on it, so as to make sure it didn't melt. Finally, at the end of the corridor, they came to a door, red with heat, looking as though in an attempt to melt the metal. ...................................................................................................................................................................................................... *** Cannon's Pov *** On a regular basis, I have been told I am cold, unfeeling and, all round, not a nice person. It was just that the people I cared about weren't around, so I didn't feel like wasting any energy on ones who didn't matter. Now faced with the real possibility of Bren not only being half dead, tortured, drugged and captured, I worried that he may have turned. Evony didn't mention anything, but I believe she went through the doctor's mind for Bren's location, because she couldn't sense him. Did that mean Bren's core was rotted too? How are we supposed to handle that? Did I lose another person? I don't think I could survive another loss like that. No, I have to believe in Brennon. Our connection. He once told me in the letters, that he would take a bullet for anyone of us, Evony included. He is strong. Believe in him, Can. "Cannon, do you think you can open the door?" I heard Evony ask. She sounded winded. When I looked at her, I saw the strain in her eyes. She must have been unable to open it the way she did with the others. I nodded in reply. Wondering how in the hell I was supposed to do that. Then an idea came to me. Slowly I let water trickle out of me, this damn heat was drying me out. I let it into the key hole, forcing it to become the print of the key and solidifying it, effectively unlocking the door, before I watched it melt and evaporate. Next, I imagined thick ice covering my hand like a glove, making sure to keep reinforcing it and turning the handle in order to push it open, but before I did, I looked back at the others, wishing it wasn't me. You see, not knowing what to expect, all those possibilities, I hate surprises.............
