"Don't doubt me. Give of yourselves unto me. Understand?" Evony asked.
The Elementals all nodded in agreement. They were at different levels of exhaustion as they had been at this all day. The afternoon sun was preparing to set on the clearing they were testing their connections on.
Addanon was the most tired, as he had to focus more mentally than the others. Once your connection is open to the Queen, you only have to let her in through the channel to access your core. Addanon had yet to form a permanent bond with her, but believed he was giving his all.
"Arrrgghhhhhh!!!" he shouted as he felt her grip onto his core and draw through him the earth. His resistance to believing that it was him she was accessing made it all the more difficult.
Using Devion, she was able to create a cyclone paired with Cannon and a fire tornado with Bren. However, attempting to form a volcano with Addy and Bren, caused not only Addanon to buckle and fall to his knees, but strained Brennon, causing him to blackout. His head would have hit the floor if Terre had not been standing close by.
"What the hell?" Devion blurted out, huffing and puffing, in an accusatory tone. His connection to Evony was the strongest as he had prepared himself all his teenage life like he had already belonged to her. Combat training was a breeze as he had learned all types of fighting and mixed martial arts in preparation and hoped he could protect her. This in turn made him mentally strong, as well and more than capable of taking what he learned and putting it into practice. There are no previous element hosts. No one to guide them from experience. Only Fero, who could speak about what he knew his father had been through. Their only saving grace was not enough and this caused Dev, who was normally quiet, to be angered.
"I'm fine," came a low groan from Brennon, as he heard his brothers shout. Brennon had to share part of Evony's core to cleanse his own, so his connection to her was more intimate than the rest. He swears that he could still feel her inside of him, regardless she's confirmed that her light had returned to her after pushing out the darkness completely. He sat up, feeling like he was about to throw up from the intense strain he endured during the exercise. Bringing up his knees, he bent his body over so his head would go between them and placed his elbows on his knees and hands on the back of his neck, in hopes that the nauseated feeling would stop.
Cannon stood there looking on at Brennon in worry and then switched to anger, whirling on Addanon and screaming, "This is your damn fault. He needs you! I need you! Evony is our conduit. You're hurting us with your inability to get your head out of your as$!"
He had felt completely demotivated for the past two days. Whether alone or with Evony, they had not been able to achieve complete harmony with each other. His ears heard a few murmurs of pure Fatums stating it was probably their bloodline. It was too saturated with mortals. He had never once been told he was inadequate and felt distraught that the problem very well couldn't be something he could fix. No one changes their heritage, only circumstances.
"I know okay. I am the weak link. The piece of sh!t that ruins everything for everyone. You're all so perfect because you could just lay your walls bare and give everything to her. I can't even comprehend that I am the thing grass grows out of. That I'm f0cking sand. It's still so unreal to me. I wish ............ I wish I could get it. I'm sorry," Addanon retorted, ending in a pleading tone. He wasn't exactly sure what he was begging for or sorry about. All he knew was that they all made it look so simple and, for no other reason than to stop causing problems, he wished he could access that part of himself as well.
"Stop it. You bickering with each other is the opposite of harmony," Lyon chastised, with a slightly annoyed tone. "You're all behaving like children."
"Newflash Uncle," Cannon started derisively, "We are. We have a bit over a month before we all turn nineteen. Nineteen-year-olds do not have the weight of an entire race resting on their shoulder on an everyday basis. Just because I had private tutors and my own company by seventeen and being groomed to take over a conglomerate does not make me more prepared for this. That was concerning the livelihood of my employees. This is a life or death situation. That may be normal for you, but some of us have never killed anyone. It f0cking befuddles me that you people don't get that. In the society we grew up, guess what! Destroying property and killing people means jail time. So excuse us for taking a f0cking minute to act like the rulers you need." Can ended his rant in that controlled grim tone he used when he was overwhelmed with emotions he preferred not to share with an audience.
"Cannon has a point. We don't even have anyone to guide us, much less with the timeframe we've been doing this. You guys are standing there judging us. You're like, old. You have your own abilities. They aren't as infinite as ours were meant to be. But! The principle is the same. What did you do to get where you are now? Lyon. I've seen other shifters. They go back to their humanoid forms before switching to another animal. There are some that are limited in how many they can transform into, what types and even some that have stated their limit was to four-legged land dwellers. You do it all. Land, aquatic, birds and bugs. Endlessly and quickly. No pause or humanoid form. Terre, you make trees bare the fruit you want, with a snap of your fingers. I also heard Fero brag that you made that tiny island yourself. So why don't you start sharing? How in the hell, have you made so much progress and your secrets?" Devion asked.
"We do not limit our imaginations. Age is why I am limitless in my transformation. However, it comes at a price. I have had aches and pains for days after. Keeping my human body formed the majority of the time, helps with the speed once I do have to do it. Terre did create that landmass. But over a period of time. As we age, we become more formidable. We have had hundreds of years with an Empath. Someone who quite literally believes in emotions. We are Fatum. Our cores are linked to the planet. You are the planet. How do we teach you to accept yourselves?" Lyon stated in his old wise man tone.
"Then f0ck this! We're screwed!" Addanon frustratedly yelled, banging his fist on the ground, where he stayed all the while, causing a fissure to appear and an earthquake.
Addanon's initial instinct was to panic, then remembered what was just said. He focused on the ground that was splitting between his knees. Willing it to knit together. Once it was done, he was feeling quite accomplished and looked up. Lyon had transformed into a bird to get off the ground. While Terre was sweating buckets from a tree that he grew, to save himself from falling.
Seeing as it was an island and Addanon did not know his own strength, Cannon had to control the ocean water that spouted through it. While Devion used his element, to keep himself and Brennon levitated, while assisting Cannon in keeping the water trapped using his shield. Brennon was in an air bubble that was no longer sanitary, as the earth shaking and being floated into the air caused his upset stomach to retaliate.
Addanon began to panic, he squealed "Where Evy?! No, no, no...... no" Looking around, he had no sight of her and felt sick to his stomach, forgetting that he had many other cracks to seal. Then a tired, sickly voice answered him, sounding like an echo due to the bubble. Brennon sneered, "She slipped away when we started arguing. It bothers her a lot. She still blames herself for not taking us here earlier."
Just then, a bright light appeared, with the same mirror-like fissure that Addanon remembered Evony appearing out of. The same thing happened. However, the minute she appeared, he felt his core being activated and all crevices were mended. The water left behind evaporated using Brennon's heat, leaving just enough to wash him off, after, she lowered him to the ground. She took charge of the air and blew him dry. Lyon took off flying high as an eagle could sore and came back to squawk to her.
Addanon was surprised he understood. He hadn't known he could understand animals. Nor did it occur to him to ask. His worry for Evony, made it easier for her to connect with him, so he still was. Due to this, he could translate that Lyon was informing her that all was mended.
Evony then instructed Lyon to survey if there was any damage or any injured. Only then did the guys notice that she was levitating off the ground. Terre took off through the trees to do the same. They all watched as he grew branches and shrunk them as a mode of transport, disappearing into the forest surrounding the clearing they normally practiced in.
Heads bowed. All four Elementals remained silent, waiting for her to say something to them. They knew that their first reaction was based on protecting themselves rather than the island and those inhabiting it. In their defense, none of them, including the troublemaker, believed that he could even affect the entire Plaine.
The vacuum-like sound of her portal closing, made them raise their heads in unison, realizing that they had monumentally screwed up as a unit. They caused her unneeded and undeniable stress, collectively, and now she hasn't spoken a word to any of them.
"On a scale of one to ten, how pissed do you think she is?" Cannon asked.
"Honestly, I believe she's disappointed," replied Devion.
"She cleaned me and healed me. I was basically out of commission, so I'm in the clear," boasted Brennon, causing the other three to scowl at him. Bren shrugged his shoulders, arms wide open, saying, "Don't hate the player hate the game."
"We're still connected," Addanon said quietly.
"Huh?" the other asked simultaneously.
"I was so worried that she fell into the c***k or something. Worse got hurt. I didn't know she'd left. She used that as a bridge and connected to me. It didn't feel forced or like an intrusion like all those other times. We're still bonded. I.... it's like I can see everything," Addanon explained. Causing the others to screw their handsome mugs.
"Details, bro," suggested Bren.
"I can see where there are hairline fractures in the deeper parts of the island. I am mending them now. I feel like ......... like when I'm healing someone. Does that make sense?" Addanon attempted to describe.
"You said that when your healing someone, you see the actual illness if you concentrate long enough. So like that?" Devion tried to understand.
"Yeah, something like that. Except it isn't a person. Not someone else, but it feels like...... and I know I'll sound crazy.......... but it feels like it's me. Like I am taking care of myself. Is that how you guys feel?" Addanon asked in awe.
"For me it's like when the wind blows through the fields, I feel the stalks brushing against me. I smell every scent it carries. If I focus long enough, I could probably see further than the Plaine," Devion informed them.
"With me, every wave that crashes, when we're on a boat, the waterfalls, I feel it. It doesn't hurt. It's just like I know........ that it is happening. It's like an awareness so proufound, there's nothing that can really describe it.." Cannon admitted.
"Wow, you guys are so poetic," Brennon snarked and rolled his eyes. Only to shout out three seconds later, when Cannon hit him with a snowball and threatened him with another.
Bren conceeded, "Alright..... alright....... geez. I feel everyone's life force. It sucks. Here, it's not so bad. 'Cause, like everyone, no matter how old, their expiry dates aren't close by. When we go to the mainland, I connect with the mortals. Human illnesses are like a rot. The healthy ones are easier to be around. Even though I could tell how long their bodies would keep before they have to pass on, they don't smell it. That putrid stench from the darklings, to me, is like death came, chewed 'em up and spat them out. I see how progressed they are to meeting their end. Fatum aren't meant to live in darkness. Internally or externally. They're connected to everything around us. You ever see those smoking commercials that show you what the lungs of a smoker looks like? That sludge?" he paused, watching the others nod, "Well, that's what their core resembles. Petrova's was decayed. I told you this Can, when you had just woken up. There was nothing left for me to cleanse. When I cleansed Addanon, you asked me why I believed you. It wasn't the smartas$ answer I gave you then. It's because it's the opposite of me. I had time to think it over. Evony told me I sustain life on the planet. The darkness, is a death sentence without darklings feeding on Fatum core light. So it isn't death. Leads to it, but not the actual thing. I believe that sludge is nothingness. It's like they cease to exist. Petrova refused to feed. So the darkness was eating on her. Her life source. Her mind. Who she was. The reason she wanted me to turn her to ash was so that she could be released, in hopes of finding her way back to Fate. What I believe that darkness does, is keeps us from returning to the core of the planet. To become nothing."
"Wait! Scientifically, it has been measured that the planet's core is significantly less hot than it was when life first started on the planet. It's actually cooling down," Cannon interrupted.
"Exactly. What if this isn't science? What if it has to do with the darklings? Fatum are born connected to the planet's core. We have a piece of it given to us. We are not supposed to live forever. We're not immortal. We are supposed to return what was given to us. We're supposed to care for the planet. If the darklings keep feeding on that light...." Brennon trailed. Leaving Cannon to continue.
"Then, in the words of Addanon, we're f0cking screwed. No core light returning to the original source, means that it will only get colder. The planet will die."
"Do you think they know? Fero and the others, I mean? I know Evony doesn't. She admitted that the one afternoon we were chatting that Fero, though he always respected her and trained her, only started giving her actual intel on what we're dealing with since she brought us here," Addanon queried.
"If they do know, they won't make it common knowledge. I know we're just speculating here. To be honest, I'm convinced it is the truth. However, this will literally cause mass panic amongst everyone here. We should not be talking about this out in the open. No one comes here, I know, but just in case," Devion suggested. The other somberly nodded in agreement.
"So Bren. Since you're convinced you did no wrong earlier, you wanna go to Evy's office first. You know make sure it's safe for the rest of us?" Cannon asked, uncharastically improper. Making Bren's almond shaped eyes expand.
"I did say I was innocent and sick. Does not mean I don't know when my lady needs time to cool off. If I go to her office now, I'll more than likely have to take the brunt of her anger that you jackas$es deserve. No freakin' way dude," Brennon protested.
"Come on, be a champ. Take one for the team, would yuh'," Addanon begged. He had recently been significantly more interested in her happiness and the idea that he had caused the recent chain of events that led to her silence made him feel guilty.
Bren tilted his head from side to side, pretending to ponder his next words. Then he groaned, "Urrrggghhh, lemme' go brush my teeth and shower real quick. If she hasn't come out yet, I'll go act cute and slightly depressed. She responds to my emotional damage. I'll prob' have to eat that juicy necture filled peach, but that ain't no chore. However, I am not so confident in my skill, that, that would make her more forgiving to all of you."
He walked away whistling to himself at the thought of having time alone with Evony, a semi-hard on and his brothers gawking at his back.
