Something’s different……

“Doooo reeeee miiiii faaaa soo laaa tiiiiii doooooo………” breathe in, I mentally tell myself, “Meeeee meeee meeee meeee meeeeeeeeee…..” Huh…, I pause, feeling the ticklish sensation I always get when someone of my blood is nearby. New vibrations, so new ones. I will have to mention that to Fero later on. Possibly after the show. I hate when he makes a big deal right before my performance to see if they could be elementals or just half-breeds living blissfully unaware that their realm was taken over by a greedy malicious murderer. At least that’s what Fero tells me. To be honest, I would rather the newspaper be read to me, than listen to another one of his so-called fairy tales. If I am to believe him, which I am inclined to do, seeing as I can truly identify others like me, even the smallest hint of our lineage tracing back tens or hundreds of generations, I know they are my people. Fero claims it is because I am destined to be queen. I have been asking for about two years now, now at eleven, I know he hasn’t ever truly answered me, “What if I only wanted to be a princess?” Princesses have way more fun in their stories, they are rescued by a handsome prince and go on adventures. Sigh, from all the teachings, lectures and combat training I have been doing since I could walk, I can only conclude being a queen sucks, BIG TIME! Rules, rules and more rules. Plus, I am going to have to put my faith in my people to want me to rule them. From the examples I have seen with half breeds, I am not too keen on that idea of blind fate. Fero said it’s because most of them are too modernized, immersed in the mortal world or have no knowledge of their superior existence. I called B.S on that comment. It is because grown men and women in this realm barely want to see children, much less listen to them. Then they feel uncontrollably loyal to me in an instant. Imagine you believed your cat was the only thing you truly loved and then along came this chunky, pre-teen with big ocean-like eyes and the voice of an angel and no previous relationship could prepare you for the overwhelming need to protect me. Some do their best to fight the feeling, failing miserably to move on with their lives, while others wear the questions on their faces, not sure how to voice them and visit. Some simply ask, “Who are you?”, while others sob, wondering why they didn’t know they were incomplete in the first place. Then the children, I snorted thinking about their reactions to me. All rebellious. Unbelieving. Unhappy that someone who could be considered in their peer group, has the power to and will soon rule over them. I suddenly freeze, my vocal exercises forgotten, along with my internal monologue of woe is me. This feels different. The auditorium should be filled with only children today and a few pesky adult chaperons. What is happening? I know my breath is quickening, but I don’t feel myself doing so. The tingling I associated with knowing my blood was nearby, had me practically vibrating, yet this feeling was stronger and novel. Like a hot blinding foreign energy. I close my eyes on instinct and there they are. Four of them, looking quite silly. They are all so different. Not only by skin tone, biological heritage and clothes, but their auras. I feel as though I have known them my entire life, yet I am positive I have never seen them before. My heart went into overdrive when I realised that I had accessed and pulled them, unconsciously, into my spiritual sanctuary, during my admiration of their uniqueness. That’s not supposed to happen. Something’s different. They aren’t half-breeds, nor my people, who were trapped here. No, but then, who are they? “Releasing them would be a brilliant idea, Evony...” my conscience, as I like to refer to her, gently coaxes me. Which I did, although I do not believe I did the first one with any finesse, I am sure the others were replaced smoothly into their physical forms. How did I do that, I asked her. “The same way you take spirit form child,” she infuriatingly replies. Urgh, why do I bother, I thought to myself. “I have told you time and again, I can guide you…”, I know, I know. Guide me, not carry me. I must find my own answers, trust my judgment and heart. Blah Blah…. I interrupted her. She is actually quite nice, once I got used to her. The first time hearing her I freaked out. Thought someone was around, locked in the same room as me. Another of Fero’s, training techniques I desperately disagreed with, but it proved to be efficient. He would lock me in a dark room and make odd noises, at random, scaring me. I had to open that door, using my mind. I would cry, scream and scratch at it, at first. Then, passed out from exhaustion when attempting to use my mind. Later found out, I used my spirit form and on returning to my physical body, I was a bit too rough. That stress caused other abilities to surface, which never appeased him. Mostly, because it defeated the purpose of the exercise. You see, I found what I call, my queen's command. It was a great day for me, not so much for him. I still have the video of him on all fours barking like a puppy. I giggle at the thought. Then she came, first a whisper, then a soothing voice, blanketing me with a calm, guiding me to the answer. I simply looked at the door that evening and told it to open and it did. She is the closest thing to a mother I would ever have. I’ve asked her name before, but she always replies, "We are many." I mentioned to Fero about her. He said, I must be quite powerful, because he only heard stories of being able to access the knowledge of past queens, not actually speaking to them. Which only made me feel more like a freak to be honest. Do I have to be so different, even from other females, who were supposed to be my predecessors! I heard the whispers from the older folks who roamed the mortal realm, because there was no way home. Other queens were tall, graceful and, most importantly, not chunky. I eat healthily, exercise, do martial arts and combat training. Yet, all I have to show for it, is a somewhat flat tummy. Chubby cheeks and an attitude would likely sum up their description of me. Those boys though. One could see they would grow up to be quite handsome. Generally, all men with our blood can make any mortal male or female swoon. I have only met a few females of my kind. They are usually tall, commanding and headstrong. Beauty care was not a top priority for them because it was not needed. They were all flawless. Which makes me question if I am a half breed. Although, the elders we recently came into contact with vehemently assured me I wasn’t. No mixed blood would be chosen by fate to rule. The powers would destroy them. Fate is not that cruel. My mind brought forth their faces to me again. What was so different about them? Why did I connect with them, in turn causing them to connect with each other? They must have been so confused. With any luck, they would think they had just day dreamed a bit. Right? Slowly and sweetly, the harmonic tunes of the orchestra began swirling around, capturing the audience’s attention. Knowing full well, I will soon have to go out myself. I pushed away all unnecessary thoughts, or so I hoped and focussed on making sure nothing was out of place, especially after my little episode. Looking in the mirror, I saw my wide-doe-eyed look, staring right back. I never could control my facial expressions when I felt something too deeply. Gasp! Could they be………. No ,no, no……………………… “la la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa……” I began again, because we are not, I repeat, NOT going there. Too many what ifs to go through and I do NOT want to think about it. “Ev,” Fero called, as he stuck his head in through the cracked door. “Five minute check,” he announced. “Coming,” I called over my shoulder. One more glance in the mirror, as cute as I’ll ever be I guess. My rosy cheeks, curly locks cascading down to the small of my back, twists to the front held in place by butterfly clips. My blue princess gown, that could rival Cinderella’s, flowing neatly to the ground, hiding my bedazzled converse. What? They’re comfy. I placed a smile on my face. The one that grabs hold of my audiences. Turning around, I replied to his unasked question, “I’m ready.”
