Carter's Story

*** Third Party Pov *** They all sat with bated breath, as Cannon pressed play. Eddie's face appeared on screen, fiddling with the camera. He seemed to have noticed the camera was indeed working and smiled, taking his seat on a classic office chair right behind him. Then began a story that left them all shuddering........... "Hello Hunnie." Eddie started tearing up and wiping them away quickly. "Right, so you are watching my last will and testament. In the box where you find this video there will also be deeds for properties I own that have nothing to do with your father. Yes, I did leave a trust for you, but that is managed by your father's financial team. Everything in that box was acquired after your visit to the classical music show. Oh my baby, I wish.... I wish I had not buried my head in the sand and paid more attention for longer. I would have seen the signs and protected you better. I must tell you about your father's family history. Do not hate him after this!" Eddie voiced vehemently, "I beg of you, please Canny, give him a chance. He grew up that way. They molded him to be their carbon copy like all the heirs before him, but I have seen the good in him." Sniffling, he continued, "Around six generations ago, the Du Mere's were like any other French family. The patriarch at the time had a farm. Their son's name was Edgar. Their farm was a little ways from a rocky shoreline, where Edgar enjoyed playing. He had found a cave that he would sneak off to whenever he wanted to get away from doing farm chores, as a child. One afternoon, Edgar fell asleep there, only to be woken up by a very loud noise. When he did open his eyes, he saw a babe. She had just appeared out of thin air. Crying and swaddled in what looked like really big leaves to him. The babe was small and so cute. Edgar took her home to his parents. They were mad at him and didn't believe the child had appeared out of no where, but after looking around, no one claimed her." Looking directly into the camera now, "As the child grew, so did other unexpected things. You see, this child was a fairy. Tattoos like vines appeared on her skin, they stretched across her entire body. The Du Mere's farm was barely visited and quite vast, so hiding her was not a problem. Since the mutation occurred, their crops have grown faster, more plentiful and, despite the season, the animals became healthier and fatter. As they got older, Edgar had fallen in love with the fae girl, despite his parents' protest. Edgar tried to convince Mabelle to run away. Mabelle refused him, as she saw him as a brother. This angered him, so he tied her up and took her back to the cave where he found her, where he would visit, feed her and try to convince her to change her mind. A week later, the crops developed a rot and began dying without her presence and he lied to his parents that she had run away. Due to their recent popularity with their produce, they had a proposal from the largest farm owners in the country to become united. Offering to be joined through marriage before the rot became serious, they pushed for a quick wedding between Edgar and the Laurents' daughter. This happened and saved them from the worry of becoming poor again. Edgar, though being a married man now, was still obsessed with Mabelle. He chose to bring Mabelle closer to the farm in hopes that it would help the crop issue. It did not. Mabelle's feelings were beyond hope, so therefore the crops would never regain their luster. Claiming it was her fault, as he had lost his family and property because of her, he r***d her. His wife, at the time, had already beared him a daughter. Her family seized his properties as payment for being deceived, so he had to return Mabelle to the cave. When Mabelle became heavily pregnant, she being the only woman he ever loved, he had to take care of her. He abandoned his wife and child." Eddie looked just about ready to weep at the thought of how much torture Mabelle had endured. "Mabelle gave birth, dying in the process, to triplets. Edgar had noticed each one of their children had manifested different traits from their mother. The eldest was a shape shifter into animals, a boy. The second, another boy, was able to blend in with any type of shrubbery. The third, a girl, could breathe under water. He kept them in the cave, visiting every day. One day, he met a man. Over six feet tall, long beard and hair, with large muscles. The man said he'd just been walking on the shoreline and decided to hike, when he found Edgar's secret cave and the children. Edgar realised the man spoke oddly and seemed not of the country, or maybe even this world. The man, somehow, knew about Mabelle and was looking for her. He informed the man that she was his wife and had died giving birth. All he stated in his journal, was that the man became angry and took the children. Made him feel ways he shouldn't have and punished him by making him feel Mabelle's pain. Leaving Edgar on the brink of death. Another loud noise came just like the night Edgar found Mabelle. This time, it was another large man followed by what seemed to be guards. One of them healed Edgar, but this process made all his grief turn to anger. As he told his story, he twisted it, excluded the children, but stating that the man who punished him was envious that his late wife had chosen him. The large man with the crown of thorns with unnamed rare jewels adorning it, smiled wickedly, offering Edgar another fae bride, one of his own guards, the one who healed him and would continue to do so for every first-born son in his family. He promised Edgar riches and wealth, producing gold from the ground in front of Edgar. He accepted all of this. Edgar grew in power and entitlement, as he had claimed the cave, his gold mine, with his Fatum bride by his side. However, once she had conceived and produced two seedlings, she died. A boy and a girl. Edgar had traveled the world, taking the children with him. Buying properties with his wealth, almost all seaside properties. Once the children had grown, Edgar took them to his homeland and entered the cave with them. A female was there waiting for them. She tossed Edgar aside, killed his daughter and claimed it was the will of her king. Also, she was the bride offered for his son. This new female was fierce and could glide on strong winds. Edgar's son, Ilian, was taught by her how to control his ability to blend in with the air, as well. They moved to America after Edgar passed on the minute his son accepted his fate. Ilian procreated with his Fatum female, just after he turned eighteen, causing her to lose her life as well. This product was not fruitful as he only had two daughters from the coupling. With a rotten core, the halfling felt nothing when they were slaughtered by the new bride given to him, a greenery like his father's first woman. Their coupling produced yet another daughter, who was killed by a male Fatum, letting Ilian know another would be sent in due time. Iilian was never a patient man, and began sleeping with any woman who would have him. In those times, as rich as he was, many willing participants were easy to come by. His escapades brought into the world three sons by three separate women, unsure of who was the oldest and at least five daughters that he knew of. Angering the dark king, with his disloyalty, he lost the cave and the endless supply of gold that came with it. He was killed. All three sons were kidn*pped and raised by the dark Fatum, and all mothers and daughters slaughtered. Being mostly human, one of his three sons only bared a child that retained the Fatum gene, strong enough to manifest powers. A greenery like his grandmother. All the others were put to death and Iilian's son, Carolus, was allowed to live in the mortal realm with his son until he became of age. Once replaced where he belonged, he was found by a lawyer, informing him that his great-great aunt, Edgar's first daughter, had no surviving relatives other than him. That they had to give him all the deeds and titles of the land. So he moved back to France and lived a quiet life with his son, Cedric. The darkness had already been manifested in their cores, so, as each generation copulated that way, not procreating with their true mates, as they called them Fated, many female Fatums died. The fathers did not survive very long either, past their sons' age of eighteen. This continued, until a trusted follower of the dark king discovered that they had been focussed on the wrong line of children. That Edgar in his diaries admitted to have had two sons with his first Fatum bride, along with a daughter. This caused Zaef, the right-hand general, to become furious and left to inform his king. Your grandfather was the one at that time, Canny. The last first born son from Edgar's second copulation with the Fatum. Claude was not aware of how they had found or captured the female given to him, but she was clearly unwilling. She tried to tell him they were kin, but he did not care and only wished to do his duty. The world had already become modernized and industrialized by then. He had been grown up racist and vile by Zaef. So when it came to mating with Eau, he had no remorse. Eau was not like all the others before. She was a mature water Fatum. They kept her drugged until their bonding formed fruit. Eau birthed Carter, your father. Her core was filled with light, and this was passed to him, but not her powers. Carter had a passive Fatum gene. Causing the king to be annoyed with his efforts to right the situation over so many years. Carter was beaten, abused and trained by Zaef. At the tender age of five, your father watched Zaef murder Claude and posed as Carter's grandfather, thereafter. At some point between your father's first meeting with me to when we began dating, he was given an airy halfling to keep, in a last ditch effort to continue the line, but with little hope and no supervision, from the rotten beings. She escaped. That was how he married me, and told me the story that I told you that day after you tried to heal me. I believe that one of them made me sick. That was why you couldn't succeed. That's beside the point. Goodness was nearly snuffed out and corrupted in your father. However, I believe part of your grandmother's light shined on. She was the only one that did not die giving birth, I believe. Unfortunately, I am not sure where she is. The halfling, your birth mother, was released after she had given birth to you, by your father. I could not find her either, but I believe she survived due to her being mostly mortal. I believe I met Zaef once. He was hot, yea good looking, but I meant he carried a heat that made me uncomfortable and suffocated the room. After that is when I became sick. Your father loved me dearly, but was powerless against them. When I found that even being a Fatum did not exempt him from being within the asexual spectrum, I couldn't help but giggle. He fought hard against the darkness for us. He even promised he would rather distance himself from you, rather than sacrifice you the way his forebears did. He barely understood what love was other than with me, so I know he would barely express himself to you. You must not keep in contact with boys once I am gone. I stopped replying to them as I believed I was being watched. The woman who brought you the box is my little neighbor friend I told you about. Please apologize to them on my behalf, once you all meet again. You do not have to tell them this entire story, but I would be proud of you if you admitted to them that your biological family served the rotten king. Forgive Carter because he knew nothing else and was unaware of other options. Now for the hard part. You have to remain yourself after viewing this. Worship him the way you always did, but never accept to go visit anyone, anywhere with him. You know how to do it. I taught you well, on avoiding your father." Hiccuping, breathing heavily, Eddie choked up with tears streaming down his face, "The vial I left in the box, contains a lethal dose of a poison found in a rare flower from the Maldives. If any time you believe he is, gone and they got to him. When I was alive he made me promise I would do it, and I am so sorry, Hunnie, to ask this of you, but you must. For all of us." He took a few moments to calm down. Evony finally understood just how deeply this man loved not only Carter, but Cannon as well, and couldn't help but send a silent thank you to him for protecting Cannon all those years. He started speaking again, drawing her attention to the screen once more. "There are two contacts, one for the guy who hates your father passionately due to him buying and stripping his family business to pieces for no other reason, than for asking if I was alone one night at a banquet. Silly but true. He will send you someone that your father cannot buy to protect you until you can. Do not ask that man where he trained or what he did prior to meeting you. His life started when he meets you. Next, your little nerdy friend, please forgive me darling. I set up that meeting. It was not a coincidence, but I promise you he grew to love you, just as you did him. He will always be loyal to you. Melody will inform you a few major facts about your kind. The way they categorize themselves and who you are to be loyal to. What future to expect as well. From what little she was willing to tell me, it was supposed to be a queen. This man has stolen her throne. There will be a new one. She said it sounded like you would be a special warrior for the queen, her elemental. I am scared for you Canny, but I know you will rise to the occasion. All of you will. I am proud to have known you all. Read each piece of paper thoroughly and prepare, darling, because they are going to need you and you will need them. Be patient and kind. Protect each other and your queen. Don't allow darkness to win. Oh baby, never forget Daddy loves you. I never wanted to leave you. Goodbye elementals." Eddie winked at the camera, so sure his son would do the right thing by showing the others the video and the screen went black. A moment of silence followed, whether it was out of respect for the deceased or because they were all speechless, was unknown. "No offense Can, 'cause I really don't mean any, it's just............ You didn't need to be worried, yuh' know. We would never believe you could turn against us. You may have Carter's blood line, but Eddie was your Dad. There can never be a rotten bone in your body," Dev reassured Cannon, breaking the quiet. "What Dev said, man......... That was some heavy sh!t. If I wasn't afraid of ruining my sobriety, I would have raided your kitchen for whiskey, but it ain't got nothing to do with you. It's just knowing Eddie had to live with something like that, then you after. I'm sorry man. Now I definitely never want to know who my parents were. If any of our families were experiments like that......... F0ck Can, how did you survive?" Addanon raved. "Ignore him, he's as eloquent as a bull in a fine china shop. What he means to say is he admires your strength. We all do Cannon. You are our brother. That won't change. As for the heated man he mentioned. He is the man that took me. He set my guardian's home on fire. Had me committed. The night I was taken, he shot me with a needle in my neck. It was the last thing I remember before I was in that padded room, being psychoanalyzed by a shrink. They talked about Fatum, how they needed to kill the queen. That bastard, insisted he was the fire elemental. That I, along with anyone who didn't accept the darkness, chaos, were infidels. He said he would always find me, but he was always a liar. I can confirm though, he and Zaef are not the same person. They thought I had passed out from the beating when he answered the phone, shouting at the dude. So, at least we know that," Bren said quietly. "I had no idea that their infiltration ran this deep. We must go. We have to go to the Plaine. It's where my people stay. It is protected by me and the air Fatums that live there. I have to let Fero know. He has to know about you as well. I made so many mistakes as a child. We have much to do now. I have been training for a war. To break down the barrier to our realm. But from the story your father just said, not only is the barrier open, they have been actively preparing as well. Cannon, you are a brilliant, devoted man, whom I could not be happier to have as my water elemental. Your grandmother knew your father was not strong enough to pass on her heritage to him, but she allowed it to be unlocked by a more than worthy heir. Now, gents' pack up what you believe you need and it can be carried. We need to go," Evony spoke with an air of authority, making the elementals stand at the ready. "Evy, would that place................ Would they accept us?" Cannon asked, sounding like an unsure teenager for the first time ever. "Of course they will, " she replied, "We are all each others home, that is until we take our realm back." Evony went to her room to pack up and organize Willow, thinking all the while, Now that my elementals are by my side, they will all pay.
