I wasn't sure why a pang went through my heart as I watched Evony hug that guy. Now seeing her laughing and smiling so much as compared to when she was with us, makes me irrationally hate the guy. I want to be upset with her. She should only be that comfortable with us. Her intimacy with the others doesn't bother me. It feels like it is supposed to be that way, though I will never admit it. Plus, I don't think I could share the woman I am with either, but I feel like she shouldn't be close to any other male.
My ridiculous thoughts were interrupted when she shouted from the helm, pointing in the direction of the island we were headed to. Looking over, all I saw was mostly green. Then, when my eyes adjusted to the distance, there was a glittering rainbow -like dome around it. I sat up straighter, holding onto the munchkin, so she could get a better look as well. I didn't know why, but as the sight got closer and closer, I felt a push and tug at my core.

My core began to pulse as we neared the landmass. Huh? I wonder what that is about. Then I looked over at where they were. I will admit, my jealousy towards the older guy may be unjustifiable, but Evony was not making it easy on me. I adore her. If I actually knew what love was, I am pretty sure it was what I would use to describe the feeling I have for her. Her squealing and carefree giggles were a sight to behold. That excited smile, at ease in her environment, I wished it was at least one of us doing that for her.
Sigh........... well, at least she kissed me again.

Being annoyed has pretty much been my go-to choice recently. Between realizing that if I could get Evony, she would never fully be mine, alone. Sharing was not my strong suit. Feelings, things or people. Coming to terms that all the elementals were fair game in Evony's mind was hard. But! I will not accept that gigantesque homme to take her away from us. I wished any one of us would voice our displeasure. Out of us, Bren is the only one that may have the right to complain, but he's so self-conscious he won't. Not being able to take the cringe sight anymore, I focused on the island we were headed for.
Urrgghh... I know it's not possible for me to be sea sick. Why is my core twitching?

Promising myself over and over, that if Evony chose one of us, especially Bren, there would be no hard feelings. He and Cannon, to me, deserve her the most. If I could only be her best friend, it was something I was willing to live with. I may be civil on the outside, but I feel like a storm is brewing internally. This promise did not include outsiders to our little party of five. I don't care that he knew her before us, from the looks on the others' faces, Lyon just became our enemy.
What the.......... my core, it's beating, like a drum.
A few minutes later, we pulled up to a boardwalk and were about to disembark. I knew in my heart the trials for us had just begun.

*** Evony's Pov ***
My overexcitement at seeing the only real home I've ever known came as a little surprise to me. Normally, I can't wait to have a reason to go to the mainland or fly out with Fero. However, after a week away, it was enough to make me miss it. The feeling was only magnified with the fact that I brought my elementals with me. I was finally not going to be alone. Have people on my wave length, not afraid of upsetting me, or just too respectful. The guys are going to love it here. Sure, they are used to technology and modern day mortal life, but here, where they belong, they will learn so much about themselves. Master their powers and become who they are supposed to be.
My core released a soothing vibration. I was home.

*** Fero's Pov ****
When Evony asked for the day unchaperoned I knew something was up. She's never complained about the company before. I usually have the twins go with her, anywhere she wishes, anyway. Since pulling them out of the mortal organizations, they have been her guards. They may be half-breeds, but they are fierce. I grew them up myself. Evony was their light, seeing as their sister went missing around fifty years ago. I knew she could not be replaced, but Evony was our queen. Being around her brought a peace that most people spend their lives searching for. So for her to ask to go to America on her own, was a red flag. Of course, I did not allow it and flew there with her. Fully expecting her to return to the hotel as she was not irresponsible, I still had to have a plan B.
Knowing that she would recognize Lyon in a heartbeat, I got a local Fatum she'd never come into contact with, to overlook her. I know my action was breaking my promise to her, but she was the queen and her safety was my priority. As long as she was not in danger, he would not approach her and if anything were to happen she would have back up until I got there. Informed him that her aura would detect them, but she wouldn't react as he and his flock weren't anyone she'd ever met. Which proved to be quite smart on my part, seeing as she and the ragtag team of hybrids decided to break mortal laws and many of them, in their first twenty-four hours of meeting. Veron was shocked when he realized they were her elementals, more so, because it seemed that it was a planned meeting. I told him to keep out of sight until she needed him and, Oh boy did she.
While they were doing, Fate alone knows what in the basement of that mental hospital, Veron, thankfully, had utilized his master combat skills, taking out all the guards and orderlies, with the help of his flock. Most were Fatum and headed for the basement, once the doctor emerged from his office screaming at them. He explained the darkened energy of the patients. Also, an uncontrolled fire that nearly killed him. He said the power was unparalleled and couldn't risk attempting to go down again. He stayed hidden, seeing them all run out with another naked kid. Informed me that while they went in there half c****d and definitely without training, they were thorough. No record was left of their so-called visitescue and they'd saved a greenery seedling as well.
A huge part of me was mortified that she lied to me. I was disappointed that she hid the information and didn't contact me for help. However, I was proud that she did what she had to do to save her elemental and her subject. Veron said he hitched a ride on the vehicle, as they were all out like lights, for almost an entire day. For safety reasons mostly, as it was a mortal that was the driver. That made me curious and asked if the chauffeur saw or knew what was really going on. Veron replied he seemed very unsurprised by anything and was surprisingly gentle with the child. By the time he felt Evony's aura build up again, he distanced himself. Mentioned something about an underground hideaway where they stayed one night and half a day, where he couldn't get in. That's when I allowed worry to settle. However, it did not take root for long as she contacted me. The call went about how I expected. She insisted she was alright and that we had a lot to talk about in person. Obviously, she wanted to speak about her elementals, but my senses told me she was disturbed by something. It made me wonder what could have shaken her that way.
Watching the group alight from the vessel, I felt my core recoil slightly. Someone is not right. Someone doesn't belong here. Of course, such a wonderful disguise. How could my sweet, innocent Evony, see this betrayal? I will have to remind her of that. I'm sure she will blame herself afterwards. Evony will be a fierce queen, but I have yet to inform her of the true enemy and what they are capable of. This was my way of still allowing her to be a child and not allow anger or despair to form in her. I may have been wrong not to fully trust her with all the truth, but hopefully she will forgive me.
Walking up to them, I allowed my abilities to spread around them. They all squirmed as they should. An empath can sense someone's true beliefs, their deepest desires and judge their cores. The last queen had no empath in her court. We are a rare breed of Fatum. However, as she had ruled for so long, she was complacent by the time one had been birthed. Claiming she didn't need one and did not wish her subjects to believe she did not trust them. The Fatum didn't exactly have laws. It was more tradition. Each queen ruled as she liked. The last had a laissez-faire approach. Being the longest to rule, at one time, no one questioned her, but now, Evony has me and nothing and no one will hurt her.

*** Third Party Pov ***
As the mammoth of a man, heading towards the group, they felt an unreasonable amount of weight in their hearts. Any positive or negative feeling they ever felt towards Evony was being picked apart, sorted and grouped. The guys felt like they were under water, unable to breathe due to the pressure.
His giant hand reached out and yanked someone in their party, towards him. Fero then bellowed, "You cannot enter. Should you attempt to do so, the protective shield will rip you to shreds. So, before we move forward and put you to death for deceiving your queen and the rest, I will give you a chance. Explain yourself, your true intent and should it be just and true, you will live. Should the reasoning for your deception please the queen, she may put you on trial to prove that you are worthy now. However, you darkling, should you lie, I have full authority and strength to end your insignificant existence."
The person in question remained silent. No fear was shown on their face. Emotionless and calm was a truth in an ugly mirror Evony was not prepared for. Someone they all trusted and had come to care for was a traitor, but why? Why would anyone deceive them? The most frustrating thing was that it was the person they least expected.
Evony's first instinct was to tell Fero he was being ridiculous and to unhand them. That they were all hers, with her for so long and never once harmed her. However, the idea of begging on behalf of someone she'd only just really met, against the man who saved her life, reared her, taught her and cared for her, her entire life, seemed ludicrous. She cared and believed in Fero, so trusting him in this situation, she lowered her head and listened intently to the answer. She wanted, no needed to know that her instincts weren't so off that she was blinded by a truth so visible for Fero to see.
Fero was an empath, but she was telepathic. She was the queen. Her failure to recognize a threat, one that not only was alone with her but she shared secrets with. How they have hidden themselves for so long. Why couldn't she see it?
